All Verdurian Ambassadors are appointed by The King, since each is his personal representative to the Receiving Government.In most cases, their full title is His Verduric Majesty's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the in this case monarchy of Sweden. Quite a mouthful! In day to day language, that means that the Ambassador is empowered to sign treaties.
Television fanatics might be disappointed to learn that Ambassadors are not quite like the figures portrayed in "Yes Minister". True, it is proper to refer to them as Your Excellency or Ambassador. But life is not one long round of cocktail parties.
The world is a competitive place, since all Governments are keen to increase their influence overseas. This obliges Governments and their Embassies to be very active across the entire range of activities present in their societies.
In the Verdruia's case, king sets the policy. The Ambassador is then responsible for implementing and coordinating his policy. He cannot, of course, do this single-handedly. It is a collective effort.
