* GAME RULES *

* The following rules are drafted by Jasper Ronan and have been accepted and approved by all the team captains.

1.1 SETS
There will be 3 sets in a game/match. In each set, first team who reaches 15 points wins. In case of a tie in 14, first team to score 2 points over the other wins. Team who will win 2 sets wins the game/match.  There will be a hange of court after each set. In the championship, there will be 5 sets. Sudden death will apply in championship game only in case of a tie - first team reaches 17 wins the set.

1.2 TIMEOUTS
Timeouts can be called on a dead ball ( ball not in play ) situation only. A team is allowed 2 time outs per set. A time out should not last more than 2 mins. Referees/officials will call end of time out. Injury time outs may be called anytime. Any team who uses the injury time out excessively or for their own advantage will lose their remaining timeouts. A referee or official must take note of the time outs per team.

1.3 SUBSTITUTION
A subtitution can take place on a dead ball situation only. There will be a maximum of 10 (times) substitutions per set. Anyone in the team may substitute one another.

2.0 SERVING THE BALL
The ball may be served anywhere behind the line at the back of the court and must be inside the imaginary line of the left and right line of the court. The ball may only be served by the hand or arm. The ball must bounce off  either hand or lower arm and passes over the net without contact to be considered a valid serve. Also, the ball must always pass in between the two poles and above the net during service and any play. On a jump serve, the server must land behind the back of the line after hitting the ball. The server is replaced for any turnover comitted by his/her team - causes rotation on their next possesion.

3.0 RECEIVING THE BALL
The volleyball may be received by any part of a persons upper body (hip and up) only and it will touch that person only once. The ball is not allowed to be "spiked"/"smashed" or blocked when it's coming from a serve.

4.0 SPIKING, BLOCKING, OVER REACHING, TIPPING, TOSSING
4.1 Since we are playing on sand and we don't have a "first line" or "front line" or any line at all inside the court, it will be a free for all. Backliners ( persons at the back of the court ) may spike or block if necessary regardless of "switching".

4.2 A ball is not allowed to be reached/blocked if it's still inside the opposing team's court. The ball should at least be halfway on top of the net before it can be reached/blocked.

4.3 Tipping of the ball over the other side of the court must not be lifted in any way by the fingers or palm of the hand. Holding is also prohibited.

4.4 Tossing can be done with the fingers or arms. Palm of the hand must not touch the ball. The ball must bounce off the fingers or arms when tossing.

5.0 SWITCHING
Team members may switch positions only if the ball was already released by the server of the opposing team. Also, switching back must take place after a dead ball when members switched. Referee or official must take note of the switch.

6.0 POSITIONS, ROTATION
6.1 The position of the team members inside the court can only be established once per set.
6.2 The players rotate clockwise in their court.

7.0 SCORING
A point is given to the team who served the ball when the other team failed to return the ball or committed a VIOLATION. If the team that served the ball comitted the VIOLATION it will result in a turnover only. In the championship, only the 5th set will have a different scoring. For every violation or turnover of a team, a point will be given to the other team regardless who served the ball.

8.0 TOUCHING THE NET
Contact to the net of any body parts is prohibited. If two opposing players touched the net at the same time during play it will be decided by a toss coin or play for served. A ball hitting the net resulting to a net contact on the opposing player is not a violation.

9.0 TRESPASSING
9.1 Intentional : extending arms, legs, head, or entire body beneath the net is prohibited.
9.2 Unintentional : due to uncontrollable circumstances is allowed provided it didn't have any effect to the offence or defence of the opposing team.

10.0 POLE, INTERRUPTIONS
10.1 When the ball hits any part of the pole it's an automatic turnover.
10.2 The play stops when an external interruption occurs. Possesion goes to the last team who served.

11.0 START OF A GAME
If the team failed to fill the court with the maximum number of players (6) on the specified time, they still have the option to compete and continue.  In this case only, the complete team will have the option to match the number of member(s) of the incomplete team. A default occurs when no one showed up for the team. On the first set of the game/match, a toss coin will be held to determine ball possesion or side of the court. The team captain
who gets the call on the toss coin will have that option.

12.0 ATTIRE
Men may remove their shirts during the game. Shorts must remain. Women gets the same liberty as men.  Rubber shoes is allowed during games.

13.0 SPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT
Participants must accept referees' decision with sportsmanlike conduct without disputing them. In case of doubt, clarification may only be requested through the game captain. To settle a dispute, a toss coin or "play for serve"
may be used.   Participants must behave respectfully and courteously in the spirit of fair-play, not only to the referees but also to opponents, teammates, and spectators.

14.0 MISCONDUCT AND ITS SANCTION
Incorrect conduct by a team member towards referees, opponents, or spectators is subject to disqualification (person) during the game and possible suspension or lawsuit depending on the severity of the offense.
