South Korean the 20th Century has been a very progressive 100 years. Starting in 1910 Japan took control of Korea and held it until the end of World War II. At the end of World War II, Korea was divided by the United States in the south, and the Soviets in the north. In 1948, Korea divided it self into two different countries, The Republic of Korea (South Korea) and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea). Tension began to rise between the Communist north and the Democratic south until the north invaded South Korea and began the Korean War. Countries in the war were many, the United States, China, and South and North Korean forces were fighting. The war ended in 1953, when a truce was signed and the countries were divided by the 38th parallel. |
