Astrological Chart
Dominant
Astrological Characteristics
The Sun is the first dominant in Tom's astral chart. In the
following paragraph, we shall indicate the significance of this
fact:
As the heart of the solar system and the gravitational center of
the travels of the Earth and the other planets, the Sun is the
primordial Light, the source of all warmth and life. From the dawn
of humanity, it has been worshiped: it has symbolized the absolute
power kings and despots yearn for and emulate. The Sun-King, the
nucleus of society, embodied a principle of cohesion and harmony.
Various subordinates - his planets - revolved around him. In terms
of psychological symbolism, the Sun corresponds to the center of an
individual, the factor that rules his psyche. Its luminous aspects
are usually associated with knowledge and consciousness. As a
creator of life, it is related to the image of the Father and the
influence of fatherhood on an individual's consciousness and ideals.
As a result, the Sun's position in a birth chart always indicates
the way in which an individual will relate to his goals and ideals:
what his ambitions and aspirations might involve. A person whose
chart is strongly " solar " usually identifies very
positively with fatherhood. His personality is friendly, energetic,
and creative, with high ideals and a firm determination to
accomplish them. He takes his own superiority and authority over
others for granted, and he has a natural ability to command the
attention and admiration of an audience. He is a born leader, who
enjoys being in the limelight, and may behave somewhat theatrically
or with dramatic exaggeration. He has definite artistic leanings
(although he is not always " tasteful "). The sense of his
ideals is evident to him and may lead him to be somewhat arrogant
and even despotic towards his friends. If ill-directed, his deep
aspirations may lead to such faults as egotism, selfishness, or
greediness for power.
The Moon is the second dominant in Tom's astral chart. In the
following paragraph, we shall indicate the significance of this
fact:
As the second light of the solar system, the Moon has always
been associated with the Sun in the minds of men. The Moon and Sun
are the primordial cosmic couple. This satellite of the Earth, which
mysteriously waxes and wanes, has been compared to the Eternal
Feminine principle, the mother hovering over her infant's cradle.
Psychologically, the Moon is thus symbolic of the Mother and the
Mother Image. This figure is a primordial element in the psyche of
each individual. Depending on his nature, the mother figure may
correspond to his biological mother, a grandmother, or a woman who
cared for him in infancy and childhood. When a person reaches
adulthood, this mother-figure and all the emotions and bonds
associated with her may be transferred to something else: a wife, a
companion, an institution, a church, corporation, or political
movement, a cult, etc. In short, any individual or structure likely
to take on the mother's duty of caring for and nurturing the
vulnerable aspects of an individual. To be more down-to-earth, the
Mother-Figure corresponds to the habits which were learned and then
definitively incorporated into the individual's identity as he
gradually became acculturated and progressed towards social
independence. As a result, a strongly " lunar "
personality often finds it difficult to adapt, and is uncomfortable
outside the secure setting of familiar routines. Closely tied to his
past, Tom may be unwilling to detach himself from it and embark on
his life as an individual in the here-and-now. He still identifies
somewhat with his inner child, and may display a child's capricious
and unstable behavior, indulging in moodiness and indecision. His
passivity may make him easily influenced, his sensitivity makes him
subjective, and he hesitates to open up and lay his soul bare. In
his daily life, psychic activity will rule : his imagination,
memory, sensitivity, sensation, and sentiment nearly overwhelm his
psyche.
Uranus is the third dominant in Tom's astral chart. In the
following paragraph, we shall indicate the significance of this
fact:
This planet symbolizes the principle of independence and
self-sufficiency, as well as a principle of transformation. Its most
striking characteristic is distance from others: the Uranian strives
to stand out from the herd, and distances himself from structuring
influences like convention, tradition, etc. Although this need to
free himself from the confines of convention, tradition, and family
symbolizes an appeal for freedom and a desire to evolve beyond the
bounds of physical limits towards a spiritual dimension, it may also
correspond to a form of escape. This is why Tom sometimes needs to
cut himself off from situations or relationships which feel stifling
to him. His intense fear of being swallowed up psychologically
causes him to react to certain emotional demands by making himself
remote or running away. He needs a lot of space and frequent change.
In a relationship, he is seeking a certain degree of intellectual
excitement. Without it, he feels as though an unbearable,
suffocating boredom sets in. By refusing certain concessions to
convention which are practically inevitable, he may find himself in
unpleasant situations. Finding an intelligent alternative to the
routine set by the rigid forms of the past is extremely different
from rebelling against any form of authority, in the settings of
family, school, business, or society. One of the major problems Tom
has to solve is how to wield his freedom, in his emotional
relationships as well as his relationships with society.
The First House is an area of the sky which is especially
important in Tom's theme, because it contains several planets,
including the one which rules his Rising Sign. In the following
paragraph, we shall explain the general meaning of this fact.
According to tradition, this area is related to the domain of
the INDIVIDUAL. It thus rules the subject himself, his character,
talents, and abilities. The Rising Sign (at the peak of the First
House) corresponds to the horizon line at the moment of birth. By
outlining the exact location of the sunrise, it emphasizes the
relationship between the cosmos and the Earth, the universal and the
individual. In psychological terms, this point on the map of the sky
which is represented by the zodiac refers to the necessity for
individuation: the need to embody one's potential identity, or the
essence of one's identity. When this area is especially prominent,
it indicates that the subject's most significant experiences will
concern his individuation: what he wants, what he is capable of,
what he himself thinks, etc. - those are the important things. His
destiny may be strewn with difficulties and occasional crises, and
most of them will be related to a lack of differentiation. This will
be the case despite a strong desire to assert an individual
identity. It will thus be important for him to isolate and reveal
his individuality and specificity by mastering his potentials and
becoming unique. This uniqueness, which has nothing to do with mere
originality or eccentricity, may justify his true purpose in living.
Synthesis and
Advice
Many people mistakenly believe that astrology is too
deterministic. However, as even the ancients said, " The stars
incline but do not determine. " In fact, the astral chart is
evidence that each of us is accountable only to himself for his life
and his destiny. Neither Heaven nor the occasional Hell of human
contacts can be held responsible for the situation down here on
Earth. Astrology shows us that life is what we make of it: all we
really obtain is what we decide to accomplish ourselves, of our own
volition.
If Tom really wants to improve and transform himself, the first
step is to become aware of the weaknesses which may be holding him
back and preventing his evolution:
- His continual need for security
- His tendency to escape into fantasy
- His hunger for approval
- His longing for the past
- His fear of the future
- His investment systems
For Tom, the main goal to aim for, in order to give purpose and
meaning to his life, is to bestow himself fully on his acts, without
inhibition. He tends to be satisfied with other people's admiration
of his skills, instead of facing any real challenges or risks. He
should make an effort to determine what matters to him, even if he
fails, because he can learn and progress from the experience of
failure. By taking risks, he will attain self-fulfillment and he may
even accomplish great feats. He should cultivate his creativity with
the knowledge that the true creative genius leaves a distinctive
mark on everything he touches, even in the small details of daily
life.
Psychological
Profile
Tom has vast stores of vital energy which endow him with
considerable physical endurance and initiative. However, the greater
his energy resources, the less he will be able to control the flow,
and it may sometimes border on hostility.
Tom's interest in any activity or theme is never lukewarm; he always
commits himself passionately. He thus has the ability to engage in
any sort of task, as long as the material is varied and diverse, a
source of novelty and distraction. If the ratio is very large, he
may be disturbed or affected by his emotions.
Tom defines himself in terms of his subjective perceptions of
reality. He is often the center of his own interests, and has little
regard for outer reality if it does not awaken an echo within him.
As a result, his behavior tends to be withdrawn and introspective.
Tom has a reactive personality, and his responses to various outer
stimuli are strong and immediate, but generally brief.
Tom has the ability to concentrate and focus his attention on a
single object intensely and exclusively. He may become a specialist
in his field.
Tom's objectivity in perception and behavior could, in the best of
cases, lead to generosity and altruism.
Tom's fierce individualism will promote independent and original
behavior. He tends to lack team spirit. On the contrary, he needs to
feel free and untrammeled by others to be really effective.
Tom has a tendency to yield, to follow, to put up with situations,
and follow other people's orders. He is modest and unassuming, with
a need for protection and a tendency to be dependent.
Because he trusts in himself and his convictions, Tom has
personality and presence. He is quite sure of himself, and may tend
to be rather smug and self-satisfied, although this does not
eliminate his need for other people's approval and recognition.
Because he is often in a positive frame of mind, Tom finds it easy
to make decisions, and is only rarely hindered by negative feelings
or anxiety. However, his optimism may lead him to overestimate his
own potential, and makes him liable to misjudgment.
Tom is chiefly interested in tangible facts and realistic details. A
pragmatic personality, he never loses sight of the utilitarian or
practical aspects of things.
Tom's approach to life rarely obeys a predetermined plan; instead,
he usually trusts in his ability to improvise or intuit, or his
reflexes and innate good timing.
Tom's thought processes rarely follow the laws of logical reasoning
or linear thought; instead, they proceed from an overall vision,
which is pieced together from more or less obscure and subconscious
clues.
Tom's mind is especially perceptive of details. To arrive at a
global perception, a vision of the whole, he proceeds gradually,
piece by piece, aspect after aspect, in a fairly linear fashion.
Tom is inclined to be messy and scattered. He is not especially
eager to sort things out or arrange them. He likes to be surrounded
by his chaos, and usually manages to pluck out what he needs,
although he occasionally loses things, and may even lose himself.
Tom's behavior usually obeys his momentary whims, and he allows
himself to be inspired by his imagination or whatever situation
arises. His openness and spontaneity give him the scope to be
skillful, ingenious, or shrewd, rising to whatever the immediate
circumstances require.
Tom continually needs excitement and action. He is fairly
fluctuating and faithless, and may abandon a project or commitment
as soon as boredom sets in, to move on to a more exciting
experience.
ASTROLOGICAL CHART
Ideal
Partner
Tom's Sun is located at 17° CANCER. His masculinity and drive
for psycho-sexual fulfillment would best be aroused by the
femininity of a person whose Moon is at 11/23° CANCER or CAPRICORN.
This relationship could yield a high degree of psychological
compatibility and powerful mutual attraction. The physical and
psychological reality of Tom's masculinity will exert a magnetic
pull over the sensitivity, receptivity, tenderness, and other
feminine qualities of his partner.
Tom's Moon is located at 06° LEO. His ideal match is a partner
with the Sun at 00/12° LEO or AQUARIUS.
This type of partner would be particularly well-matched to his
underlying psychic and unconscious aspirations. The secret ideal
this person cherishes of the perfect masculine partner would be
aroused; it would harmonize beautifully with Tom's ideal imaginary
woman. This great psychic compatibility is the result of a
harmonious relationship between the Moon of the masculine chart and
the Sun of the feminine one. It is propitious to a rich flow of
energies between the most hidden and secret parts of both people.
They are linked by an unconscious emotional bond.
Tom's Planet Venus is located at 22° GEMINI. His ideal match is
a partner with Mars at 16/28° GEMINI or SAGITTARIUS.
This type of partner would complement him perfectly in emotional
and sentimental terms. This person would reflect and fulfill Tom's
ideal of feminine sensuality to the greatest desgree. Moreover, her
ideal imaginary male partner would resonate lastingly with Tom's own
psychic projections of his feminine ideal. This positive
relationship between the unconscious sexual yearnings of both
partners would be likely to yield sensual relations of a
tantalizingly mysterious and secret nature.
Because he has a taste for the game of seduction, Tom may go from
conquest to conquest, until he finally becomes dissatisfied with his
unstable love life and makes a more definitive choice. In this case,
he would be wise to choose this type of woman. Brilliant, witty, and
amusing, she will sparkle with the excitement he needs. His
instability, unpredictability, and secret vulnerability will delight
her. The intellectual exchange and communication between the two
will be rich and fulfilling.
Tom's Planet Mars is located at 17° PISCES. His ideal match is a
partner with Venus at 11/23° PISCES or VIRGO.
This type of partner would be especially well-suited to his
physical and sensual urges. His sexual longings, desires, and
passion would harmonize beautifully with this person's femininity
and receptivity. Her eyes, her lips, her skin, her hair...
everything about her would arouse his ardor and sharpen his desire.
This type of planetary relationship is favorable to true mutual
fulfillment of a stable, physical bond.
