Executive Consulting was founded in 2000 by Tom Pineda at the
request of several Silicon Valley entrepreneurs. Tom had been
instrumental in the technical startup success of several Internet
startups (Kalpana, Inc, Healtheon|WebMD) as well as having worked on
cutting-edge technology designs for the Broadcast industry while he was
with Sony Electronics. As a result of his 20-year background in
the technology field and pioneering efforts in the Internet world,
several key individuals requested his assistance in getting their
companies off the ground. As a result, "Executive Consulting" was
formed to help small business, individuals, entrepreneurs and startups.
About the Founder
Tom Pineda was born and raised in San Diego, CA and graduated from San
Diego State University with a BA degree in Sociology. He then went
on to Graduate studies at the Pacific School of Religion where he
studied Religious Broadcasting while earning his Masters of Divinity.
He had planned to work in the Religious Broadcast field upon his
graduation, but instead found himself intrigued by the evolving
technology of "personal computing". Mr. Pineda taught himself on
several different subjects including MVS, 3Com 3+ Share, Basic, and
Apple computers. During his early career with network operating systems,
Mr. Pineda became certified by 3Com as a 3Plus Wizard. His first
big break came when he helped design a global messaging service for
Matson Navigation using 3Plus Mail. Based on this work, he was
recruited to work at 3Com as a senior level engineer.
Mr. Pineda's next career move came when he was recruited to work at
Kalpana, Inc. with other former 3Comers. Kalpana, the holder of
the Ethernet Switch Patent, became an early pioneer in the Internet with
it's cutting edge switch technology. Mr. Pineda was the sole IT
in-house guru and supported the Kalpana staff until it's merger with
Cisco. Mr. Pineda left Cisco when he was recruited to work with a
TV station in San Francisco.
During the following years Mr. Pineda worked at KPIX-TV and worked on
the redesign of their Infrastructure in anticipation of the requirements
needed to broadcast "digital" signals. He was instrumental in
preparing the station to broadcast HDTV several years before the
standards were confirmed. This work was noticed by Sony
Electronics who recruited him to work on network designs for satellite
broadcast facilities. His work included designs for News
Corporation's "ASkyB" facility in Gilbert, Arizona. The network
required 100% uptime and redundancy over multiple VLANs. Mr.
Pineda was able to meet these requirements and was able to failover the
network in less than 10ms!
Mr. Pineda's next venture with a startup was with Healtheon prior to the
merger with WebMD. Mr. Pineda was recruited to work on the design
of a Network Operating Center (NOC) that would provide7/24
monitoring of all network devices. The design work began and Mr.
Pineda was soon asked to take on additional duties and responsibilities
as the manager of three other departments. During Mr. Pineda's
tenure at Healtheon|WebMD he was instrumental in taking WebMD's uptime
from 79% to 99.99%, establishing policies and procedures, formation of
Change Control policies, hiring and training for a staff of 50
individuals, implementation of security procedures based on HIPAA
regulations, building and support of Data Centers across the United
States, implementation of Disaster Recovery procedures, expansion of the
NOC, and development of intra-departmental communication that enabled
WebMD to actively update software and hardware with minimal downtime.
Mr. Pineda is now taking the experience and knowledge he has gained
during the past 20+ years and giving back to the community where he was
raised. He is now working with other local consultants in
providing the needed technology and computer support to both businesses
and individuals.
