Ah, Valentine's Day...a day for love, romance,
and wooing your sweetheart with flowers and candy. Undoubtedly the most
romantic day of the calendar year for couples, young and old. Hisashi
sat on his windowsill and stared outside, looking at the fallen sakura
petals that were slowly littering the green grass in his yard. Everywhere
he looked was endless pink... //So beautiful...//
He was pulled out of his thoughts as Ayu jumped
onto his lap, purring and settling down comfortably. //Lucky cat -- you
don't have to mull around this place with anxious thoughts of Valentine's
Day in your head, do you?// He pet Ayu lovingly then carefully picked
up the fluffy bundle, setting the cat down on the floor and moved into
the kitchen, snagging the cordless phone from the counter on the way.
Hisashi dailed a number into the receiver and waited as the phone on the
other line rang. Once...twice...three times, then --
"Moshi moshi?"
"Hey, it's me, Hisashi."
"Oh, hi! What's up?" A bright, genki voice greeted him.
Hisashi smiled, "Nothing, just wanted to call you...Um, I'm still
meeting you at the restaurant, right?"
"Uh-huh! At eight o'clock. I can hardly wait until tonight..."
the voice trailed off dreamily.
"Me neither," Hisashi blushed a bit and chuckled, while Ayu
padded over to him and gave a qeustioning look. The guitarist winked at
his cat and turned his attention back to the phone.
"So..." the other person started, "I'll talk to you later,
ok?"
"Yea, yea! Sure...but, don't you want me to come pick you up?"
Hisashi stammered out while idly beginning to walk around the kitchen.
He would have been twirling the telephone cord around his finger a long
time ago, but fortunately, he was using a cordless.
"Ano...no, it's better that we meet each other there."
Hisashi pouted and finally sat down on his kitchen stool, "I understand.
I'll see you then."
"Ok! Now, give me a kiss to go!" The voice waited for him. Then
Hisashi reluctantly made a kissing noise into the phone, earning a giggle
from the other.
"Aww, my little Hisa-chan! Well, ja ne!"
"J-ja ne!" and he hung up, a big smile forming on his lips.
Suddenly, a loud knocking came from his front door. //Now, who could that
be?// He hopped off the stool and went over to the peephole to see who
it was and through the little view, he could see the distorted image of
his two friends outside, waving expectantly at the shut door while peering
back at him through the hole. He opened the door and invited them in.
Teru and Takuro both kicked off their shoes, rearranging them against
the wall and followed Hisashi into the livingroom. They sat down on the
couch and waited for their friend to
return from the kitchen with three beers.
"Hey, what brings you guys here?" Hisashi asked, handing them
each a beer and sitting down himself. Takuro popped open the can with
a smile, "Why, we came to pay you a visit!"
Hisashi raised an eyebrow and Teru grinned, "The truth is, we were
bored, ok?"
Hisashi was even more confused. "Bored?" he asked. "But
it's Valentine's Day."
"Oh, yeah...that," Takuro said, looking a little miffed. Teru
nervously laughed, "Uh, Takuro's date cancelled on him." "Oh..."
Hisashi nodded and Teru continued, "And as for me, Ami's away doing
some promotion for Puffy. So I was thinking, 'Hey! Why not make this a
Boys' Night Out sort of thing?', you know? And here we are!"
"Um, right..." Hisashi forced out a smile.
Takuro finshed his beer and set it aside. "Yea, boys' night out.
Too bad Jiro said he couldn't go," he scoffed. "Apparently,
he's had a date planned for tonight for weeks in advance. I'm surprised
she didn't cancel on him...lucky dope. Even bragged on how beautiful she
was," he sighed. Hisashi blinked.
//Jiro...?//
"So you interested or what? Boys' night out?" Takuro asked and
walked to the refrigerator to get another beer.
"Uh...well, that is, um...I kinda have something to do tonight,"
Hisashimuttered and took a sip from his can. Teru sputtered in mid-drink,
"Huh?? Don't tell me that you're going on a date tonight, too??"
"Oh, it's nothing special, you two. I'm just meeting a friend to
have dinner, " Hisashi tried to explain, but Takuro's whistle could
be heard from the kitchen.
"Wow, she must be something -- for you to buy her roses, I mean,"
and he pulled out a bouquet of long-stemmed red roses, grinning and winking
like a madman at his host on the couch.
"Hey! Put those back!" Hisashi scampered to Takuro and snatched
the flowers out of his grasp. Teru doubled over from laughter in the livingroom,
rolling on the floor. "Hahaha! Hisa, you should've seen your face
when Takky took your girlfriend's flowers! Hehehee!" Then Takuro
also joined Teru in the laughing, much to Hisashi's expense. He pushed
past the tall guitarist and carefully placed the flowers back inside his
refrigerator.
"All right -- I don't want to kick you guys out, but you're going
to have to go. I have to get ready." Hisashi began gathering their
things and opened the front door. The two that had been laughing, pouted
and went over to slip on their shoes, taking their respective jackets
from Hisashi's waiting arms. "But Hisa! Tell us more about your date
and the romantic little Valentine's Day dinner!" Teru whined then
laughed and was promptly shoved out the door, Takuro not far behind him.
"Just forget about me and go have your
boys' night!" Hisashi slammed the door shut and locked it.
* * *
"Well..." Takuro huffed, recovering
from getting tossed out, and started off to their car. "Wait, Takuro!
Aren't you as curious as I am about his date?? I mean, we should do something
about this," Teru ran up to him and grabbed his sleeve, halting Takuro
from stepping into the car.
"What? Like, spy on him during his date?"
Takuro asked sarcastically, shrugging off Teru's grip and stepping inside.
Teru ran over to the passenger side and hopped in, chattering on like
an excited little kid about his plan.
"Exactly! We could be all covert -- like, secret agents and we'll
even get to see what his date looks like! C'mon, it'll be fun! What do
you say, hmm?" he tittered and playfully punched Takuro's arm. "Secret
agents...?" Takuro thought about it. He's always wanted to be a secret
agent just like James Bond, so why not? "Well, I say -- let's do
it!"
"Yay!" Teru cheered and put on his seatbelt while Takuro pulled
out of the driveway. "So, we should tail him to where he's meeting
his date, right?" asked Takuro. "Yea, but we haven't got a lot
of time. Afterall, he kicked us out because he wanted to get dressed."
"Or maybe he did it because we were getting nosy...?" Takuro
suggested with a grin.
"Ok, THAT, too," Teru laughed.
"Let's hurry up and come back here so we don't accidentally miss
him when he leaves," Takuro warned and the duo drove off to Teru's
part
