San Diego Tourmaline Mine Green Tourmaline Filigree Ring
This striking ring features a Cushion step cut, deep Green Tourmaline stone mined from the now closed San Diego Tourmaline Mine. The San Diego Tourmaline Mine and the Himalaya mine are adjacent on the same pegmatite vein in San Diego County, California and have produced many colors of tourmaline, but are particularly known for multi-color, pink, red and green gemstones. This double-veined pegmatite was a mineralogical phenomenon even in its prime, and still discussed in gem institutes and university geology departments today. Stones from this mine are found in several major museums and private collections.
The 9 x 8 mm old mine cut center stone is set in a 14k yellow filigree fourteen prong gold mounting with a heavy shank.

The tourmaline deposits of southern California, including the San Diego Tourmaline, Himalaya, and Stewart mines, were part of a boom in tourmaline mining in San Diego County between about 1890 and 1910, when the dowager empress of China and her court were buying most of the production of tourmaline.
