Robson watches Ipswich duo By NuStain @ 05/10/03 - 13:00
Newcastle United boss Sir Bobby Robson watched Ipswich Town duo Matt Richards and Darren Bent in action this week.

Both players are targets for Robson, who saw the pair against Sunderland in the Black Cats' 3-2 win.

Richards, 18, broke into the first team last season and became the youngest player in the club's history to represent Town in Europe after featuring in the Uefa Cup tie with Avenir Beggen.

Former Ipswich manager Robson has already raided Portman Road for Kieron Dyer, Titus Bramble and Darren Ambrose.

Bent and Richards both signed new contracts at Portman Road in June 2003, but may be tempted by a move to the Premiership.

Encouraged by Kluivert's Barca trouble By NuStain @ 03/10/03 - 09:11
Newcastle United are encouraged with comments made by Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert in recent days.

The Dutchman is a target for the Nou Camp boo-boys and is also being criticised regularly in the Catalan media for his poor strike-rate.

Newcastle are ready to sign Kluivert in January and are said to have drawn up a £60,000-a-week package in preparation of his availability.

Kluivert said: "I've heard the things being said and written and it is not a nice situation to be in. I can cope with the circumstances at the moment, but naturally if it continues, it would make any decision to leave an easier one."

Robson ponders move for Richards By NuStain @ 02/10/03 - 10:22
SIR BOBBY Robson may turn to another of Ipswich Town rising young stars to solve Newcastle United's left-back shortage, writes Derek Davis.

The under-fire Magpies boss was impressed with Matt Richards even though he was part of a side that conceded three goals at Sunderland on Tuesday.

North-East sources last night confirmed Robson's interest and admitted the left side of defence was an area Newcastle were looking to strengthen.

Richards would be used as cover for Olivier Bernard, who scored from a Kieron Dyer pass against Arsenal last Friday, and would play behind former Town team-mate Darren Ambrose, who went on as a substitute on the left flank at Highbury.
