The
building was named after its developr Khun Panlert Baiyoke.
Baiyoke Tower is first building in Thailand to rise
more than 40 storeys and once the tallest building in
Bangkok.
Built at the beginning of Bangkok's
construction boom, the building once the best known
landmark in Bangkok is now overshadowed by its new neighbour,
the Baiyoke II.
This building is perhaps best remembered
for its quirky use of colours: the balcony painted in
hues of rainbows which dissolves into different colours
as it ascends the building. The concrete structure atop
the building also symbolise the 'Yoke' (sparrow leaf)
shape.
