The first step in joining the Pit as a Player Character
is to decide what kind of character you would like
to play. As with any campaign you need to create a
concept for a character. Before any stats are assigned,
skills picked and weapons purchased, I need to know
what type of character it is that you are going to
be creating. The steps below briefly outline the process
required to submit a character.
Before you begin are you sure you are interested?
If you submit a character and he loses every single
match are you going to cry and write me nasty emails?
If so then please don't waste my time. Are you going
to submit a character, email me a couple of times
and then disappear completely never to be heard from
again? Once again don't waste my time. I don't expect
people to place this as their top priority but if
you are not interested let me know so someone who
is can join. If you feel you would like to participate
and become part of a growing community then please
continue to Step 2, otherwise feel free to read the
fights and sit in the crowd, cheering on your favorite
competitor.
This is where the fun begins. Once you have decided
what type of character you are going to play please
submit a brief description. I would like it if this
description included a bit about the character (race,
class, etc.), how he ended up wanting to join the
pit, previous adventures (starting characters are
ECL 3) and background history. It doesn't have to
be long but please don't submit this: "He is
a fighter that is an orphan and he likes to fight."
I'll delete it. When you have done this email me and
put in the subject line (this is important!):
CHARACTER SUBMISSION - Character Name
Of course remember to put your character's
name in the subject line. I will review the character
along with the other DM's and I will send you an acceptance
email within a few days. This email will include your
starting ability scores (that can be arranged as you
like).
You know how to create 3rd Edition characters so I
won't get into to much detail there but I will outline
a few things due to the uniqueness of the Pit.
- All characters start at ECL 3. If your race has
a modifier to character level then your class level
+ modifier should equal 3. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- You have 350gp to buy equipment. This equipment
can be mundane, masterwork, magical or alchemical
but it must not exceed 350gp to start. Once used
in the Pit you will have to replenish it from your
winnings.
- Hit points will be assigned by me.
- I will be awarding one magical item to each starting
character. This will be a minor magic item and will
most likely be a +1 weapon or some sort of protective
gear
Because these characters will be fighting in a Pit
and you will not have direct control of them in combat
it is very important that you are descriptive about
your character's tactics. These tactics should include
how he will act in various situations against various
types of opponents. I would also like to see well
written histories and descriptions of the characters
so that the DM's have information to work with in
order to make the fights exciting.
When you feel the character is complete, send him
in. The format for this is VERY IMPORTANT! Please
send the character in stat block format and please
include how each modifier adds up! When looking through
several character sheets it gets tiring trying to
figure out how everyone came up to certain numbers.
So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE include how each modifier
total adds up. Thank you. Once that is done then it
is easier for all of us. It is also important to send
in a description of the character that I can post
to the PC page for everyone to see.
After reviewing your character you will be sent the
magic item they have as well as their hit points.
In addition and changes required will be sent. Myself
and the other DM's will be reviewing each character.
As the weeks pass and your character goes through
fights you will probably want to change your tactics
and when your character has reached a new level you
will need to submit the level up information. Feel
free to submit tactics as often as you need to but
please follow the following format.
- Plain Text - Notepad text files are great.
- Just changes and updates. Do not resubmit the
character sheet.
