Canada has emerged as a world power in the sport of dragonboat racing; shaking the foundation of a sport which has historically been dominated by Asian countries.

Canadian women have placed in the medal standing at the world championships 8 of the last 10 years and Canada's men's and mixed crews are consistently ranked in the top five teams in the world.

In 1996, Vancouver played host to the first ever World Cup of dragon boat racing. Since that time, the World Cup has become a bi-annual event.

What's most exciting, is the growth of the sport at the grass roots level. Although most international crews are either male or female, national and regional events attract primarily mixed teams from corporations, public service groups, clubs and high schools.
