OBEDIENCESTAND

Patches came to us without a 'stand'. He always wants to sit when he has performed any trick. This is not good.
Stand/stay
And don't forgetthe thumbs up - good boy.
It's coming, patience, patience, more patience.

Stand/stay is just as important as sit/stay, down/stay, sleep/stay.
Every trick has a purpose.

For instance, if I 'set' my dog in the show ring for the judges inspection, and he sat when the judge pressed on his rump, I'd have apoplexy!
The
shame, can you imagine?
Stand is also an important part of trick training.
Tory prefers....the right pee.
Normally Tory would be closer to my leg for effect. Too much effect is a no no.

When we signal stop, as Tory and Patches walk toward us, what we want is stop/stand and wait for the next signal.

This is play, so standing and running are a natural part of the activity. We want to encourage that. Patches is keeping a close eye on Mark. He may be asked to sit or to down, neither of which is a wanted behaviour without the accompanying signal. Wait for it! Wait for it! We'll let you know.
The vast majority of the time, it will be fetch the ball. Here Patches turns a deaf ear to closer.
But this is good.It will translate into stand/
walk in/slowly/stand, and take it
, which Tory performs in a number of variations.

And then we have cute, as in stand/left cross.
Stand, like many tricks, is taking a natural behaviour and having it
performed on signal.
