If you think in terms of Jun Fan Gung Fu, in a technique versus technique comparison to the model of the 60s and 70s then you are right - nothing similiar really. If you compare JKD the concept and philosophy to what we practice through Burton and JKDU - they are both the same.
Having no way as a way. Having no limitation as a limitation. Wasn't JKD the "style of no style". If we are comparing techniques I think we are missing the message.
Some people think that "JKD" is only what Bruce Lee did himself. If this is true, then what phase are we talking about? Seattle? Oakland? Los Angeles? After he shut his schools down?
The thing that makes JKD is the philosophy of training to be an efficient fighter in a street situation. Absorbing what is useful, testing through sparring. This is what we do at JKDU. I added the "U" for Unlimited because I saw too many JKD Concepts people getting stuck in a few styles and not looking further. I want everyone to use whatever is available to improve their fighting prowess, while using that knowledge and understanding to become better people. --- Burton Richardson
