Anna Bamford

Anna is currently a grade eight student. She enjoys creating abstract works and agrees with George Weasley when he says "size is no guarantee of power".

Natalie Bamford

Natalie attends Danforth Tech. She plans to study math and science when she goes on to University, though the specifics are not yet ironed out. She is very involved in the Martial Arts, and has her second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Kate Burtis

Originally from toronto, kate is currently living and studying in montreal as an aspiring poet, doctor, and artist.

Jap Makkar

Jap is a student at the University of Toronto, where she is studying English and Film. She hopes to pursue a career as a writer, philosopher, and filmmaker. She has previously performed her poetry at the Lexiconjury Reading Series, Nightwood Theatre’s Hysteria Festival, and The Scream Literary Festival. She enjoys sleeping and profound sedation.

Claire Morcos

Claire is an eighteen year old student residing in Mississauga, ON. She attends the University of Toronto, Mississauga campus. She went to a French elementary school, and graduated from Holy Name of Mary Secondary School. She is currently pursuing political science, theatre, and literature.

Sula Sidnell-Greene

Sula is 13 years old. She goes to Delta Alternative School, a small school in downtown Toronto. She is loves to write and has been published in New Moon and the Toronto Public Library’s Young Voices. Sula has always loved to write, her writing is most often influenced by personal experiences. Along with writing, music is one of Sula’s greatest passions. Elliott Smith, Blossom Dearie, Regina Spektor and Aretha Franklin are among the many artists that routinely inspire Sula’s writing.

Andrew Topel

andrew topel has wondered why 'knife' begins with a K. also, he's never been to toronto but would love to go there one day.

Amy Carlberg

Amy likes low sounds, whipped oil from the ice cream truck, bright colours, singing, and writing poetry. She was born and raised a Toronto kid but will fly to BC come the fall to study Creative Writing.

Penn Kemp

Penn Kemp has published 25 books of poetry and drama, had six plays and ten CDs produced as well as Canada's first poetry CD-ROM. She creates Sound Operas on line and live: http://www.mytown.ca/pendas/, http://www.pennkemp.ca and http://www.myspace.com/pennkemp . Since Coach House published her first book (1972), Penn has been pushing text and aural boundaries in collaborative participatory performance. The Association of Canadian Studies sponsored her tours throughout India and Brazil, with the Canada Council's aid. Penn hosts chrwradio.com/talk/gatheringvoices, lit.-on-air; http://www.mytown.ca/gatheringvoices/. She is Series Editor for Pendas Poets’ book/cd combos. The League of Canadian Poets proclaimed her a foremother of Canadian poetry.

Ulva (cover model)

Ulva is an Asian ball jointed doll (Luts Dark Elf Soo) who lives in a corner of a suburban bedroom rarely touched by light. She spends her days counting rosary beads and thinking about seaweed. She is occasionally photographed by Emily Materick, the provider of perfect tiny clothes that cost a pretty penny.

Issue III - Flesh & Fowl

caroline x. aksich

caroline is one of the numerous montreal diaspora located in toronto. she attends the university of toronto for english literature and linguistics. caroline has been published in inscape, acta vctoriana, and misunderstandings magazine; at one point in time she self-published a chapbook entitled 'your shopping options'. being a narcissist, caroline relishes third person autobiographies.

Adam Allett

Adam is a recently employed elementary school teacher from Toronto. He is also the keytar player for The Stepfathers. He enjoys eating spaghetti for breakfast, mattress forts, and kazoo music.
The editors of knives out would like to apologize for spelling Adam's surname incorrectly in the publication. The correct spelling can be seen here.

derek beaulieu

Derek is the author, or co-author, of 6 books of poetry and prose. His most recent is "Local Colour" (ntamo press).

gabrielle Charron-Merritt

gabrielle is bzz-bzz-busy from wake-up until bed-down. Preferred activities include: opening and closing books, rearranging alphabet blocks, pushing pedals, getting lost, and making shit up. gabrielle is interested in learning the art of teleportation.

Kerry Freek

Kerry is the managing editor of a magazine about water -- she advocates tap over bottle. In her spare time, she works on tiny creative projects.

Penn Kemp

London ON poet Penn Kemp performs in arts festivals around the world, as well as reading and giving writing workshops in local venues, schools, libraries. The League of Poets proclaimed her a foremother of Canadian poetry. Since Coach House published her first book (1972), Penn has pushed text and aural boundaries, often in participatory performance. Among her publications are twenty-five books (poetry and drama), ten CDs (Sound Opera and Sound Poetry), six videopoems and Canada's first poetry CD-ROM: sample mytown.ca/pendas, myspace.com/pennkemp, http://www.ditchpoetry.com/pennkemp.htm and mytown.ca/poemforpeace. Rachel Paris

Rachel is a French specialist at the University of Toronto. She enjoys birdwatching, embroidery, and Gregorian chant.
