The Anti-Gravity Man

Writer: Otto Binder

Penciller: Gil Kane

Inker: Bernard Sachs

Synopsis: Space Cabby drives through space, when suddenly, a man in a space suit hails him. Space Cabby picks up the man, who identifies himself as Professor Thaddeus, and explains that due to an anti-gravity experiment gone wrong, he can't get near any massive object...a fact that has now doomed Space Cabby to the same fate, since he's not allowed to dump a passenger in space. Space Cabby tries landing, but is unable to approach any world. The professor proves useful, though, when a meteor swarm menaces them and the cab's meteor deflector gives out; he uses his anti-gravity to keep the meteors away from the cab. Space Cabby then lands on a very-low-mass meteor that contains a gas station, only to discover that the gas station's tanks are leaking a geyser of gas into space, a situation that the professor is able to rectify, by repelling the gas from his body back into the tank, enabling the attendant to cap it. Space Cabby worries about what the professor's ride is costing him, but he then gets the idea to land on a "magnetic" asteroid which attracts all things so strongly, they cannever escape it. With the professor's help, he should be able to safely leave the asteroid, so he lands the cab there in the middle of a rainstorm and he and the professor start loading the cab with gold that had been lost there. In the middle of doing this, the professor's anti-gravity charge wears off. But when the rain stops, Space Cabby notices clouds in the sky and realizes that the asteroid doesn't hold water down to its surface. So he and the professor, running the cab's cooling system at its higest setting, coat the cab with ice and take off. They return the gold to its rightful owner and receive a reward, which the professor allows Space Cabby to keep in its entirety. The professor thanks Space Cabby and says he knows who to call when he's in trouble...a call Space Cabby intends on not hearing if he can avoid it.
