Synopsis: Star Hawkins tells Ilda that his current job is to catch counterfeiters who have been passing phony notes at the Arcadia Racetrack. After he leaves for the track, Ilda takes out a racing form to predict the winners of the upcoming races, something she does every day for mental exercise. She recalls getting three visitors the previous day who had been interested in her predictions, and those same visitors soon arrive to ask her for her predictions for the day's races, as she had been correct on every race the previous day. As they observe her prediction for the fourth race coming true, their leader, Mister Smith, tells the others that if she can guess the eighth race's winner, they can win enough money to no longer have to rely on counterfeiting for their livelihood. When they ask Ilda to predict the winner of that race, she tells them she doesn't predict the races out of order. Mister Smith then threatens her with a gun, which makes her too nervous to calculate anything. Suddenly, one of the three zips sees Star returning and they all hide, threatening Ilda not to reveal their presence. Star pretends to leave, but notices the smell of cigarette smoke and waits outside for the intruders to reveal themselves. After they do, Star bursts back in, and he and Ilda capture the gang, who Star later discovers are the counterfeiters, resulting in his getting paid for solving the case.
Detective rating: Pure luck. In fact, Star didn't even know they were the counterfeiters until he turned them in. 1 on a scale of 1 to 10.
