According to an article in Psychology of Women Quarterly, European American women report masturbating more frequently and are less satisfied with their bodies than African American women. European American women who masturbated more often had more positive body images, but this relationship was not found among African American women. (Shulman & Home, 2003).
Social Behavior & Personality found that people who are prone to boredom are more likely to masturbate. (Gana, Trouillet, Martin, & Toffart, 2001).
Psychological Reports found that males were more likely to have masturbated than females, but females started masturbating at an earlier age. Masturbation was also correlated with higher sexual self-esteem. (Smith, Rosenthal, & Reichler, 1996).
Journal of Neuroscience reported a study in which researchers used a PET scan on men's brains during sexual stimulation and orgasm and found the reaction to be similar to a heroin rush. (Holstege, Georgiadis, Paans, Meiners, van der Graaf, & Reinders, 2003).
BJU International found that men who ejaculated more frequently in early adult life were less likely to get prostate cancer later on. (Giles, Severi, English, McCredie, Borland, Boyle, & Hopper, 2003).
Urology found that non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate was less likely among men who ejaculated more often. (Jacobsen, Jacobsen, Rohe, Girman, Roberts, & Lieber, 2003).
Gynecologic & Obstetric Investigation reported a study that found that women who had orgasms during menstruation were less likely to have endometriosis. (Meaddough, Olive, Gallup, Perlin, & Kliman, 2002).
In addition to these articles, masturbation relieves menstrual cramps, improves cardiovascular health, and is often prescribed as a treatment for premature ejaculation in men and hypoactive sexual desire disorders in women.
SO MASTURBATE… IT'S GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH!
