Tenchi's family returns to his great aunt's bath house that Ryouko's summoned
creature had destroyed previously. Tenchi's great aunt greets them at the entrance,
and Nobuyuki thanks her for inviting them back. She then gives him tools and tells him that
the men will get busy fixing the damage while the girls will go about doing the cooking and the
laundry, much to everyone's dismay since they were ready for a vacation. Washu, in her young girl
form, walks up to Tenchi's great aunt and, acting respectful, asks what she should do. Tenchi's great aunt
is impressed with Washu's manners, and she tells Washu that she does not plan on letting children do any work,
so Tenchi's aunt tells Washu to go out and play with Sasami. Tenchi's aunt then comments that Nobuyuki had
more people with him than he had reserved for, but Nobuyuki says that there are only eight of them. Tenchi's
great aunt then says that she thought she saw a young woman with the group. Washu calls out to Sasami to follow
her so they can go explore the forest. Before going, Sasami turns around to say something to her older sister, but
when Aeka asks what's on her mind, Sasami hesitates then says it is nothing.
Sasami and Washu are out exploring the forest next to the bath house. Washu is commenting on the various forms of plantlife that they run across. She then tells Sasami to come and look at the marvelous view of the countryside from the hilltop they are on. Sasami is about to go look, but then, along with Ryo-ohki, she goes off on her own. Washu turns around to find Sasami gone, but Washu is confident that Sasami's all right since Ryo-ohki is with her.
Back at the onsen, Tenchi, Nobuyuki, and Yousho are on the rooftop doing repairs. Nobuyuki comments on how stupid he was for not realizing that they were invited back to the bath house to repair it. He then misses the nail with his hammer and hits his thumb. Yousho comments that Nobuyuki was not stupid, just gullible. Not paying attention, he then hits his own thumb with his hammer. Tenchi comments that they are both boneheads, then Yousho points telling Tenchi to look at something. Tenchi raises his head, and as a result HE hits his thumb with his hammer.
Ryouko, Aeka, and Mihoshi are peeling potatoes. Ryouko is slicing off a lot of the potato in her attempt to peel it, and Aeka is peeling extremely slowly. Aeka comments that with the way Ryouko is peeling, there won't be enough to make dinner with. Ryouko comes back by saying that at the rate Aeka is peeling, it will be amazing if they ever eat dinner. The two girls then begin to stare at each other, but then Mihoshi jumps in by saying that they shouldn't argue over trivial things. Aeka and Ryouko notice that Mihoshi is very adept at peeling potatoes. Then they both notice an apparition move past the doorway. Aeka suspects Ryouko of doing something, but after Ryouko says that it wasn't her, Aeka decides to investigate. Outside the doorway, Aeka finds Sasami. Aeka asks Sasami if she had seen anyone walk by, but Sasami replies that she did not see anyone. Sasami then begins to tell Aeka something, but she's interrupted as Ryouko calls out to Aeka to ask if Aeka found out anything. Aeka turns her attention back to Sasami and asks her what it was she was going to tell her, but Sasami says again that it's nothing and then walks off. In the meantime, Tenchi, his father, and his grandfather are repairing one of the walls when Nobuyuki and Yousho notice an apparition of a woman walk by in the far corridor.
In the utility closet, Aeka and Ryouko tell Tenchi about the ghostlike figure that they had seen. Tenchi then comments that his father and grandfather said that they saw something similar. Mihoshi gets freaked out with all of the talk of ghosts. Suddenly, Yousho appears, startling Tenchi and the girls. He then proceeds to tell a story (with special effects being provided by Nobuyuki) of a young couple who had lived in the location they were in a long time ago. This couple was very much in love. However, the lady suddenly became ill, and no doctor could cure her. Then someone told the young man that across the mountains lay an herb that could cure anything. Despite his ill wife's request, he went to seach for this herb that could cure her. However, he never returned. His wife waited as long as she could, but in the end she died alone. Now, her spirit, known as the White Ghost, wanders the hallway, looking for her lost love. Suddenly, Tenchi's great aunt storms into the room, practically scaring everyone, and tells them to get back to work, but Tenchi is too frightened to run into the White Ghost. Tenchi's great aunt then looks at Nobuyuki and Yousho and scolds them for spreading that fairy tale around. Nobuyuki and Yousho then admit to Tenchi that they made the story of the White Ghost up. Tenchi was not too pleased with either of them.
Tenchi then heads to the the main power box to restore lighting to the bath house. He begins to work on the fuses when he hears a noise, and recalling the ghost story his grandfather just told him, he immediately begins to run. He hits the wall, then turning around, his flashlight comes upon a can that had fallen. Feeling a bit silly, Tenchi begins to relax, but then someone, or something, places a hand on his shoulder! Dropping his flashlight, Tenchi immediately begins to run. He is not looking where he is going, and he end up running through a hole in the wall that leads outside. Luckily, he plummets right into one of the bathing pools. Emerging from the water, he sees something white in front of him, then immediately turns and begins to wade to the other side of the pool. However, he hears a familiar voice calling him, then looking behind him, he sees Aeka wrapped in a towel wondering what he is doing in the women's bath. Exhausted, Tenchi slides into the water. All the girls are now around him, and they ask him what happened. He tells them he saw the ghost, and Washu asks where. Tenchi points to the hole, and everyone gasps as a woman in white is there. Meanwhile, back in the room Tenchi was working in, Nobuyuki walks in, and not finding Tenchi, he works on the lighting. Nobuyuki fixes the lights and turns the power on. Back at the bathing pool, the lights turn back on. The white figure turns out to be Sasami, and everyone lets out a sigh of relief. However, Mihoshi becomes fearful and tells everyone to look at Sasami's reflection in the water. Everyone looks, even Sasami, and the reflection in the water shows not Sasami but...Tsunami! Sasami immediately looks stricken, and then she runs off. Everyone tells her to wait and to come back, and immediately go after. Unfortunately, the lights go back out, and Tenchi and the girls trip over themselves. Back at the main lighting box, it turns out Nobuyuki had fouled the wiring, causing the power to go out once again.
Everyone begins to search for Sasami around the bath house. No one is able to find her on the premises, however. Washu can not detect either Sasami or Ryo-ohki on her equipment, and
Ryouko can not establish a link with Ryo-ohki. Everyone splits up again to search. Aeka stumbles upon her crying and sitting upon a rock by a pond. Ryo-ohki is also there beside her. Aeka
approaches Sasami, who stops crying but wears an expression of apprehension. As Aeka gets closer, she notices that Sasami's reflection in the pond is still that of Tsunami. Sasami then
tells Aeka that she is not the real Sasami, and that the real Sasami died a long time ago! After saying this Sasami begins to cry even harder. Aeka is stunned and asks Sasami what she
is talking about. At this time Tenchi stumbles upon them, but before he could make his presence known, he is pulled into the bushes by Washu, who is observing what is going on between Aeka and
Sasami. Tenchi understands to keep quiet, but then he notices Ryouko and Mihoshi tied up and gagged so as not to interfere with what is going on. Meanwhile, Sasami is crying too hard to say
anything, and thus the image of Tsunami begins to relate the story of what happened in the past.
Tsunami says that 700 years ago, when Ryouko, under the control of Kagato, attacked the planet of Jurai, Sasami, who was three at the time, wandered into a huge room in the royal palace. In this room were all of the Royal Trees of Jurai! Sasami was thrilled at her discovery, and she began to wander about visiting the trees which were kept on different tiers. However, while this was going on, a Juraian ship that lost control in the attack crashed into the royal palace. The shock of the impact caused Sasami to lose her footing on one of the ledges where a tree was kept, and she fell a long way, eventually landing at the bottom next to the first of all the Juraian Royal Trees, Tsunami. Sasami was near death, but when Tsunami took Sasami's essence within herself and assimilated with her, thus acquiring her current form...that of Sasami in the future! Sasami then adds that therefore the real Sasami died that day, and therefore she wasn't Aeka's real sister. Aeka takes pity on her little sister, then she remembered something from her past that she thinks will get Sasami over her worries. Aeka begins to act like Sasami was saying the things she was saying to drive Aeka away, and Sasami begins to protest saying that she loves Aeka very much. Aeka then turns around and says that she loves Sasami very much as well. Aeka tells Sasami that they love each other, and that is all that matters. At this moment Washu pushes Tenchi into the open, surprising Aeka and Sasami. Tenchi tells Sasami that he feels the same way as Aeka, that they all love Sasami for who she was. Sasami then runs over to Tenchi sobbing and hugs him. Washu comments that Sasami is a little girl after all, and walks off leaving Ryouko and Mihoshi still tied up.
It is a while later, and Tenchi, Sasami, and Aeka are sitting on the rock Sasami was crying on a while ago. Sasami is leaning against Tenchi and has fallen asleep. Aeka begins to wonder out loud about the things Tsunami had said earlier. Tsunami then appears to the them, and she tells Aeka that Sasami is in fact her real sister, and that she did not die in the fall. She is alive because Tsunami assimilated with Sasami. Tsunami then continues by saying that right now, they are two separate people, but in the future they will become one, and that it will not matter in the future whether she is called either Sasami or Tsunami.
Everyone else appears at this point, and lanterns illuminate indicating that the bath house is completely repaired. Everyone is having a good time cooking over the fire, telling jokes, and drinking sake (except Tenchi who is only 17). Ryouko notices this and tries to get Tenchi to drink some to liven up the party. Ryouko then leans forward to try to steal a kiss from Tenchi, but Tenchi backs away too far and falls off the rock he was sitting on, thus rendering himself unconscious. Ryouko sighs, then notices Aeka sitting by herself next to the pond drinking sake. Ryouko teleports over and makes herself comfortable by Aeka. Ryouko then comments that she didn't know that Jurai had trees that could assume human form. Aeka replies by saying that Ryouko didn't understand anything. When asked by Ryouko what Aeka meant by that comment, Aeka says that Sasami and Tsunami are the same. Aeka furthers her explanation by saying that Tsunami and Sasami are assimilated, meaning that in the future Sasami will look like Tsunami. Ryouko is in disbelief but Tsunami reappears yet again to testify that what Aeka says is true. Tsunami reassures them that Sasami will still retain her individual memories as will Tsunami. Aeka and Ryouko turn on Tsunami and tell her that is not the issue. Both Aeka and Ryouko are thinking that when Sasami does look like Tsunami, her beauty will surpass both of theirs, and thus they might lose Tenchi to her. The situation is somewhat diffused when Aeka and Ryouko start arguing that Tsunami looks better than the other, and then Mihoshi, after tending to Tenchi, goes over to stop the two from arguing, but she trips and accidently pushes both of them into the pond. Aeka and Ryouko return the favor to Mihoshi while Tsunami looks on in amusement. Thus another eventful day comes to an end in Tenchi's life.
