Gets His Chance to WailThis is a multi-CD collection of bootleg material, with a rather confusing publishing history. The following information on the chronology of this set is from Craig Kerns:There are four different discs that I know of in the Gets His Chance To Wail saga:
See also Gypsy Soul - a later (1996) bootleg with material from both Laughing In The Wind and Naked In The Jungle - and the And It Stoned Me boot (which appears to be just a clone of the original Gets His Chance to Wail). Note that "Lean On Me" and "Wasn't That a Time"on the original Gets His Chance to Wail are known as "Hey, Where are You" and "Rock and Roll Band" (the title Van announces on the track) on the Gypsy Soul bootleg. Review from Carsten Brenski: The 3 CD set "Van Morrison Gets His Chance to Wail" is really a jewel among lots of Bootlegs. Vol. 1 & 2 contain rare studio outtakes and demos, most of them played "unplugged", only Van singing and playing guitar. There are even "preview versions" of songs he later did on albums in the nineties such as "Real Real Gone" or "I Need Your Kind Of Loving". The sound quality of the CD's is very pleasant throughout. Vol. 3 contains mainly the well-known concert of Van at Fillmore West, San Francisco, April 26th 1970. The show must have been broadcasted but nevertheless none of the other CD's which cover this show have a comparable stunning sound for a 25 year old recording.
