Hi there! Welcome to the Ketchikan Trails Coalition Adopt-a-Trail page!

Our mission:

To help make Ketchikan a world-class hiking destination by working together with the Forest Service, State of Alaska, and Ketchikan Gateway Borough to help with maintenance of local trails.

History:

We unveiled our Adopt-a-Trail program in April 2003. Kathleen Wiechelman and I (Dave) are the coordinators for this. We're looking for groups or families to help maintain Ketchikan-area trails. Almost every Forest Service, state, or borough trail is available for adoption right now. We're asking groups or families to, at the least, pick up litter, trim brush, and maintain drainage. You can adopt a whole trail or just part of a trail. Tools and safety equipment are available for loan from KORTC. If you would like more information, e-mail Kathleen or myself. You can also reach Kathleen by phone at 247-7780 or myself at 225-2603.

Adopted Trails:

Ward Creek Trail

The Ward Creek Trail was adopted in 2003 by SAIL (Southeast Alaska Independent Living) and Community Connections.

This photo shows an enthusiastic volunteer making sure the drainage tubes running under the trail are free of obstructions.

Perseverence Lake Trail

The Perseverence Lake Trail was adopted in 2004 by the Lieben family. Approximately once a month or so they hike the trail, picking up garbage and removing obstacles. This photo shows Danny taking a break at the lake.

Sara doesn't really help that much yet, but she will when she's older.

Family friend Kiki Sherman helped clean up the trail on a beautiful sunny day in June.
