Punk has gone through many changes over time, but its still just a form of expressing yourself. Punk has become a way for a lot of people to express their feelings about the government, people, drugs, and just about any other subject that you could think of. What bothers me the most about modern punk is the fact that it's going public. Punk went from not wanting publicity, to a bunch of idiots on MTV. MTV is just a lame way to market your music. Who needs to market their music if its good enough for people to discover it on their own?
My
personal modern punk favorites are bands like, Nofx Antiflag, AFI, Pennywise,
Rancid, black Flag, and
The Exploited. Most people say that bands that go onto music television
channels to sell albums
are sellouts. I feel that all these music television channels just go along
with what the majority of people like and don't appeal to people with other
tastes. I personally hate bands that bring themselves low enough to show
there faces on media crazed television.
Punk is more than just music, but a way of life to some people. Its reflected in
there clothes and actions. Punk is also strongly conected with skaters.
Most punk bands refuse publicity from the media, bands like Nofx refuse
interniews because of misinterpretation of what they said and because they all
ask the same questions over and over again. I respect bands that refuse
publicity and avoid the media.
