On The Road Again

Or, Mom is Gonna Kill Me For This

In August of 1998, Mom accompanied me travelling to Palo Alto, California, to start my next contract with Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital. We first traveled north to Omaha, Nebraska and visited Sister Mary Adrian's grave. We then headed west on I-80, and anyone who has ever complained about western Kansas has never been across Nebraska.

Nebraska gave way to Wyoming, and on the second day, after speeding through Salt Lake City so Mom couldn't get out of the car, we reached the Bonneville Salt Flats.

[Salt Flats]

Located just west of Salt Lake City, Utah in the Great Salt Desert, the Salt Flats are covered with anything from a slight dusting of salt to a fairly thick layer. The entire area is very level and nearby is where many speed records are set.

[Mom collecting salt]

Here's an extremely flattering picture of Mom trying to get a little salt as a souvenir...before I figured out an easier way!

It's NOT a snowball, but a salt ball...

[Donner Pass]

Yeep after traveling 2 days...at the Emigrant Museum in Truckee, California.

[Donner Monument]

This monument is dedicated to the memory of all pioneers, especially the members of the Donner Party. The base of the monument is 31 feet tall--the approximent level of the snow when the Donner Party wintered in the Sierras.

Where Do I Go From Here???
