Location

The Canadian Rockies are in the Province of Alberta, bordering with British Columbia.


Recommended Activities

Mt Rundell Views
Rock-climbing - primarily crack climbing, some face and sports climbing as well. Some of the most scenic climbing in the world is on offer at Lake Louise.

Skiing/boarding - again Lake Louise has a very popular ski resort

Extreme hiking - you could spend months hiking the length of the Rockies, surely some of the most scenic hiking in the world. If you like the steep risky stuff, try Mt Rundell - it is worth the pain for the view!

Moderate hiking - very beautiful hikes are plentiful as you head south from Jasper to Banff, including around Mt Edith-Cavell, Lake Louise, Tunnel Mountain and Sulphur Mountain.

Glacier adventures - take a tour on the massive Athabasca Glacier or Columbia Icefield.

Romantic getaway - the resort on the shore of Lake Louise hints at romance, romance and romance.

Working holiday - the major townships of Jasper and Banff are popular working holiday destinations.

When

Go in the warmer mid-year months to enjoy the hiking and rock-climbing. January/February is the prime time for skiing/boarding at Lake Louise. Jasper and Lake Louise are extremely popular year round, so keep this in mind if you detest crowds.


Accommodation

Hotels, great hostels are plentiful but are contentious during peak seasons. There is always a quite and isolated spot to camp in the mountains. Lake Louise has a massive campground with good facilities.

Transport

Transport is not a problem. Among public transport, accommodation pick-up, share-travelling and backpacking tour options transport is not a problem. Hitch-hiking is surprisingly difficult.
