From Frank Rodriquez
Probably taken at LZ Ross.  From left to right: ?, Terry Oldham, ?, Frank Rodriquez, Cpl Max Johnson the Company supply clerk.

One of these is probably the weapon that Hayward Peleiholani captured from an NVA he killed  a few days earlier.  After Pelly was killed the First Sargent said it would go to Peleiholani's friend John Pedro.  Don't know if he got it or not..

One day, seems to me it might have been around the first part of September, a bunch of us were sitting around in one of the tents.  There were several new guys there and they were looking for a couple of hints on what to expect and some old guys (looking to show off most likely).   Some old hand said something about M-16s and AK's sounding different.  The new guys wanted to know how they were different.  We told them that M-16s pop and AKs crack.  This was no sooner said then somebody out by the line, with access to an AK, perhaps one of the ones above, fired of a burst just for the fun of it.  All the old guys were on the ground while the new guys sat there looking at us like we were idiots.

Frank said this was taken at LZ Baldy but it looks more like LZ Ross to me.  As I remember things, Baldy  was mostly wooden hootches, Ross was mostly tents.  Not sure when it was taken.

Frank thinks that the fellow with him is Cpl. James L. Phelps and that he was the Company armour.
