| Doug Whiting on the left and Tom "Pineapple" Root on the right. Both of these men were killed by the same booby trap, probably close to where this picture was taken. This was on July 10, 1969. Doug died at the scene. Tom lost both legs and had several other injuries but lived until July 27th. Joe told me that he died on the flight to Japan. It looks to me like this is part of the area around Tugboat. They were probably killed pretty close to where this picture was taken. |
