My car for sale. Its a 1970 Sterling built in 1977 by Sterling component cars of California. It is titled as a 1970 Sterling and has less then 23,000 original miles. The engine is a 1972 vw 1835 cc Type III. It was rebuilt in 1998 and runs excellent. The transmission is a 4 speed and was rebuilt in 1999. The Sterling has had the floor pan lowered approx 2.5 inches. The car sits only 3.5 inches from the ground. It has Air conditioning, power mirrors, keychain remote roof opener, removeable side and rear windows, rear wing, interior dome light, map light, adjustable seat with padded seat covers, new carpeting, and new wiring. It does not have power steering or power brakes.

The interior is in excellent condition. It has a leather wrapped steering wheel and leather shift boot(not shown in pic). The car has never been in an accident. It was originally yellow. It was painted black in 1991. The paint has started to chip in some places, but i have used touch up paint. The paint is 7 on a scale of 10.

I have the original rear louvers, all reciepts back to 1977, and original build manual. All of this goes with the car when it is sold. I am the third owner of this beautiful automobile. I would be happy to give you the e-mail address of the second owner who lives in Flordia. He owned it from 1990-1998 and only sold it because he was retired and no longer drove it. The Sterling is garage kept and is located in NJ, 20 minutes from Philly. I am selling this car because I dont drive it enough to justify owning it. I only took it out about once every two weeks.

Here is some questions I have been asked about the car.

The roof is opened & closed using Hydraulics. It takes about 8-10 seconds to open and about 5 to shut. The car comes with one key chain remote that opens the top. The seal around the top was replaced in 1991 and does not leak. There is no lock on the car. Anyone who knows Sterlings will tell you that there is no way you can pry open the roof when is it hydraulically sealed. The car used to have a lock, but it was removed when the hydraulic system was added. There is an emergency release valve inside the car in case you lose power and are inside the car.

When I first got the car, it had surface rust up near where your feet touch the floor on both sides. I sanded it down, primed it and painted it black before I put the carpet down. There is no visible rust on the car.

The floor pan has been lowered. The reason you can not see the lowered pan is because the previous owner did something very clever before he had it painted. He fiberglassed the bottom of the car on the sides to hide the lowered floor pan. He also added the Testorossa style vent louvers in the air intakes near the rear wheels.

The rear spoiler and deck are painted flat black. This was done because the original rear deck louvers were flat black. The spoiler is an olds 442 style. The original louvers are included with the car, however you will need to remove or reposition the spoiler to use them. I took off the louvers because it provides better visibility and I think the car looks nicer without them.

The car has dual exhaust and duel webber carbs. It is a 1970 car and therefore does not require a catalytic converter. The car has a GM alternator and air conditioning. I have never had the ac charged. However it does blow out air when turned on so I assume it works, but just needs freon. The car has what sounds like a GM horn. One of the pictures on my webpage shows an inside view of the roof when it is opened. There is a red LED in this photo. This can be turned on and flashes to make thieves think there is an alarm in the car. The car does not have an alarm system.

THE BRAKES ARE NOW FIXED AND WORK EXCELLENT!

I have added two more pictures to the web page. These are of the front hood and rear engine compartment. These pictures were taken on the day the car i bought it. The sterling was dirty from the long trip from Florida in an open-air carrier. I will be happy to answer any questions you have but please read all of this information before you ask your question to see if I already covered it.
