TREKKING IN SOLU KHUMBU

First days in the valley
Himalayan valleys are huge with luxuriant vegetation, terrace cultivation have sculpted the mountain. The landscape all around us is purely and simply wonderful
We meet and pass a lot of Nepalese people laden with huge baskets full different things. On the trails there is no other means of transport than people or yacks and caws.

We meet and pass a little nepalese girl

We are getting cold as the weather is quite humid and the temperature decrease in the evening . we will have cold momos  for the diner, it’s a kind of Tibetan ravioli. With patience, Jangbu answers to all our questions. We wonder how Nepalese people take care of sick people. There is no hospital here, no medicine neither, it’s better to be in good health ...

Himalayan people have a  strong class consciousness, they live in separate regions according to their ethnical origin. Sherpas are settled in Solu Khumbu for several century. They are originated from Tibet, during all this time they have kept Tibetan culture and traditions, except Sherpa language which is different from Tibetan. More generally speaking, Tibetan dialects are used in a wide part of Tibetan area, whereas the reference language is spoken almost only in Lhassa region.
Sherpas grew richer by trading with Tibet, more recently they have built lodges to develop trekking business. As Solu Khumbu is on the way to Everest base camp, this business is very profitable here. Most of trekking guides are Sherpa.
We often walk under an overcast sky, and it rains during the night, thanks to all this water and humidity we have to cope with leeches, even under the shower!
We are at the beginning of October, the monsoon should be over now. The best season will start in two weeks, but then, waves of occidental tourists will turn up...
