EVANS- Mary Jane Evans (1872 to 1964) married James Franklin Hill (1867 to 1907) on June 29,1889 in Scioto county Ohio. Iva May,Arthur J.,Rachel Evelyn and Jessie L Hill are their children. Mary's parents are Martin Butler Evans and Zaradia Kayton. James' parents are Joseph Hill and Rachel Phillips.
Martin and Zaradia were married on May 23, 1866 in Scioto county,Ohio. Mary Jane,Thomas,Elizabeth,John,Albert M. and George Evans are their children.
Martin died October 4,1887 due to injuries from being shot in the groin at Kleffner's Saloon in Sciotoville,Ohio. I have the newspaper articles telling the story of how it happened.
Martin's parents are Wilson W. Evans and wife Mary. Wilson is the last Evans I have found so far. In the 1850 Vernon Township,Scioto county Ohio census Wilson states he was born in Kentucky and his wife was born in Germany. In the 1860 census he claims to have been born in Ohio. I'll continue searching, of course.

STOUT- From what I have read there were three lines of Stouts that migrated to America.  Two lines came from Germany and one came from England. Our line came from England. The earliest Stout I have seen on the internet was John Stout. He was born in about 1580 in Nottinghanshire,England. His son Richard came to New Netherlands (New York) around 1640.
The English surname Stout is of a nickname origin, belonging to that category of names based on physical characteristics or personal attribute of the original bearer. STOUT can traced back to the Old English word "stut" ("stout" in middle English), meaning "stout, bold".  The name was once a familiar name in the English counties of York and Lancaster. Though somewhat rare in England today, the name flourishes in America.

WAITFrom what I have found Richard Wait was a direct descendent of Ralph DeWaite, who married his cousin, Emma, sister to Roger, the Earl of Hereford. Richard was Escheator of the Counties Berkshire, Wilts, Oxford, Bedford and Bucks in the year 1315. He lived in county Warwick. It is supposedly through this line that Richard (the immigrant) Wait comes from. He received a grant of land in Watertown, Mass. in 1637. This Richard was cousin to Thomas Wayte, a member of Parliment and one of the judges that signed the Warrant for the execution of Charles the first in 1649. Our line comes straight out of Waitsfield, Vermont.
It is also said that the original Waytes were found in England immediately after the Norman Conquest. The name "Wait", originally spelled "Wayght" or "Wayte" is derived from the old High German "Wachten", to keep watch.

Joseph Wait (far left) son of Benjamin F. Wait and Mary Smith.

James P. Wait (center) son of B.F. Wait and Mary.

Benjamin Franklin Wait and Mary Smith (near left). Ben moved to this area from Waitsfield, Vermont. He was station master for Wait's Station (now Slocum, Ohio).
