TrioAfrica
Africa's finest music,dance and drama
History
TrioAfrica is a cultural troupe found in Uganda(East Africa). It came into existance in 1999. The word Trio means three i.e Music, Dance and Drama. Coincidently, the troupe was founded by three young talented people in displines of African music, dance and drama. These young people are Mr. Jjemba Eric Lutaaya (Dip.MDD Muk, BA.Dance Muk) representing African Dance forms and the present director of the troupe,Mr.Zaake Nathan representing African music and the Co-Director, and Miss Namulema Kigula Sylvia(B.A Drama Muk,Candidate Dip.MDD Muk) representing Drama and in charge of public relations. They felt that they could join the different displines together, get others to join the cause, perform and spread the rich Ugandan cultural heritage within Uganda and overseas. Dispite the abundant natural resources hardworking people and good weather and climate, the people of Uganda like any other African country, have been subjected to abject povert and hoplessnees. This situation has been made worse by catastrophes like the wars in northen Uganda which has left a very big damage to Uganda and HIV/AIDS epidermic among others. These have increased the number of orphans and the population living below poverty line. The troupe therefore identified talented but socially disadvantaged children who have looked after and educated the generated through the performances that TrioAfrica does on both the internal and external stages. Currently the troup has a membership of 25 active members.
TrioAfrica crosses bounders by performing dances from other African Countries i.e Tanzania, Kenya, Mali, South Africa, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and thus qualifing to be Africa's finest music, dance and drama group.
