"Fannu? You out there?"
Indeed.
Botril groaned as he plodded out of his apartment and into the courtyard that was almost entirely filled by his bond. "What are you doing out here?"
Nothing was the dragon's sedate reply. Botril shook his head and considered throwing his hands up in the air in frustration. The dragon had been nothing but a frustration ever since they bonded. Luckily, Efannuk was also sedate and boring enough that Botril was often able to focus on his magic, and it was in this capacity that he'd been able to remain at Star City. As long as Efannuk could go with him he was sure to be bored enough to complete whatever magical task would be required of him.
"We've got a couple weeks off, any ideas on what we should do?"
No.
With great effort Botril refrained from grinding his teeth in frustration. He thought for a moment and inspiration struck. "You know Fannu you're a full-grown adult now, don't you have any desire to chase?"
There was a long pause and when Botril had almost given up on getting an answer the dragon finally replied. It has crossed my mind.
"Then do you want me to sign you up?"
No.
This time Botril did throw his hands up in the air and turned around as if he was going to leave then turned back around, having changed his mind. "Then you're taking me to Avengaea. I've got to get away and you're the best mode of transport I've got. Get off your lazy butt, we're going."
Efannuk made no move, merely blinking impassively at his rider for a very long time. Finally he stood, stretched and dipped a shoulder so Botril could mount. If you insist.
When they arrived in Avengaea they circled over the Nidus for a while. Botril leaned into the spiral and got a breath-taking view of the entire place. He looked and knew Efannuk was inspecting the place as well and blinked in surprise as what he had assumed was a rock moved and turned out to be a dragon lifting her head to watch them approach. Efannuk fanned his wings in surprise and Botril had to clutch at the straps to keep his balance. Before long they were landing before the Nidus and much to Botril's surprise Efannuk dumped him unceremoniously on the ground and made his way over to greet the strange color-changing female.
Botril picked himself up, dusted himself off, and watched after his usually sedate and somber dragon in surprise. The Brown Mutt was more lively than Botril had ever seen him, (which wasn't saying much, as the dragon was usually so sedate one might think him mentally retarded) and suddenly it dawned on him that perhaps his sedate, silent dragon might finally have found something (or in this case someone) interesting enough to get a rise from him.
This realization made Botril wasted no time in signing up for the flight and making arrangements for them to remain at the Nidus on Avengaea until the chameleon dragon rose. Since he was on vacation he decided he could take a break from magic and grinned as he watched his dragon growing more and more animated everyday in trying to gain the attention of the color-changing dragoness.
