Staff Claims Assistant - 11/95 to Present

As a staff claim assistant for Allstate Insurance Company, responsible for serving the Nothern Virginia metro claims office and its customers. This includes performing the duties of a claim processor which consists of evaluating the facts of loss by contacting the customer and/or the presiding law enforcement officials; gathering evidence supporting claims and making liability decisions based on the evidence; notifying policyholders to summarize the coverage provided for the loss they are claiming; and advising customers of the claim process and necessary procedures outlined in claim practices - guiding principles.

Acting as loss of use coordinator, responsibilities include monitoring rental use by claim customers who are given rental reservations set up electronically by claim personnel. These reservations are given specifically for customers who were deprived of the use of their own vehicle as a result of an auto loss. When system access is not available, provide alternative solutions to place customers in contact with vendors to obtain transportation. Also, run daily listings of customer rental reservations to be extended according to the status of claims, and call area auto shops to receive the status of vehicle repair and obtain detailed information on possible repair delays for reporting back to auto adjusters and claim representatives. In addition, responsible for reviewing rental invoices for accuracy and adherence to guidelines, and correcting authorized days and comparable daily rates according to policy provisions and the statutes set forth by the Virginia Office of the Insurance Comissioner. Developed guidelines for the loss of use process position introduced in the Norhtern Virginia claim office including training other office personnel. Other duties are assisting rental vendors in coordinating an efficient process to validate rental extensions and authorized direct billing to insurance company; meeting with vendor executives to update customer satisfaction reviews; reaffirming corporate contract agreements; and troubleshooting and finding solutions for system problems. Provided detailed input regarding a state-wide loss of use best practices plan for use in all Virginia Allstate claim offices. Served as a member of the loss of use focus group which involved reviewing other states' loss of use plans and making recommendations. Received a performance bonus for performing loss of use coordinator duties efficiently and thoroughly.

As an unrepresented claim processor, implementing unrepresented processor initiative using guidelines set forth by claim management staff. Secure claim files and monitor them for compliance; contact injured claimants and their treatment providers to gather medical records and billing information to expedite settlement of claims without attorney involvement. Imputing damage estimate data to monitor severity. Analize police reports for facts of loss; as well as injury index bureau data to analize prior injuries, in an attempt to define actual injuries sustained related to the time of loss.

I possess more than five years experience in the banking industry. As a paying and receiving teller for both Signet Bank and F&M Bank, my responsibilities included processing daily customer transactions; assisting customers with cash deposits and withdrawals; settling daily cash drawers, cash in vaults, and branch figures; and settling general ledger accounts and ATMs. Also was responsible for performing financial analyses for customers; opening and closing CD accounts; issuing and redeeming federal savings bonds; redeeming treasury notes; sending and receiving Federal Reserve shipments; processing branch commercial and installment loans; and training incoming personnel. Minerals Data Assistant - 3/83 to 7/84

In this capacity, my responsibilities included conducting periodic surveys of minerals production in the U.S. by collection and calculating geological statistics from independent industrial companies, mailing survey forms, and making phone inquiries. Duties also included entering estimates from government field offices into the database residing on an IBM mainframe. This information was used by geological specialists, government agencies, and private industry.
