GENERAL INFO:
To earn a Merit Badge, the Scout (not the parents) must first
obtain a "Merit Badge Blue Card". Check with the
Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster or Advancement Chair for
a "Merit Badge Blue Card", or purchase a small
supply of Merit Badge Blue Cards at the Verdugo Hills or
other council office.
Scouts working on a Merit Badge at summer camp
or other camp (i.e. Trask's "Trail To Eagle") must ALSO
obtain a blue card from Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster or Advancement
Chair and complete the blue card as described below. They will leave
the Merit Badge Counselor info blank
in this instance.
If the Scout does not know
a Merit Badge Counselor for a particular Merit Badge, contact Verdugo
Hills Council - they have a Merit Badge Counselor listing.
 |
The Scout fills out the section of
the blue card with "Application For Merit Badge"
on the front (the 3rd third on the front).
The Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster
puts the date of the request of the blue card and signs at
the bottom of the "Application
For Merit Badge".
|
On the reverse side of the blue card
the Scout fills out his name, Merit Badge and Unit info only.
The Merit Badge Counselor will complete
the rest of the card as you work on and complete the merit
badge.
|
 |
The Scout then contacts the Merit Badge
Counselor, and arranges a time for meeting with him/her.
At the first meeting, the Scout turns over the blue card to the
Merit Badge Counselor to keep track of until the Merit Badge is
completed.
When the final requirement of the Merit
Badge is completed, the Merit Badge Counselor then fills in all
the rest of the blanks on the blue card. The date of completion
is the date it is earned!!!
The Merit Badge Counselor keeps the last
third of the blue card..."Counselor's Record", and gives
back the other 2 thirds to the Scout who will then turn it in to
the Troop Advancement Chair, who
will record it in the Troop records, order the Merit Badge (patch)
and Merit Badge Card, and keep one third of the blue card for the
troop's records.
The Scout recieves his third of the blue
card, the Merit Badge Card and the Merit Badge (patch) at the Troop's
Court of Honor.
