ProgramScouting is an organization led by the boys under the supervision and control of the adult leaders. It is the Scouts that choose the activities and participate in them. The adult leadership functions to ensure that the activities are age appropriate and have sufficient resources in order to be completed. The program in our troop is that of conventional Scouting activities. It is a partnership between the Troop and the parents that gives the Scouts activities that are both fun and safe. For over 90 years, Scouting activities have helped to build young men of good character and leadership. SafetyFor most parents, safety of their children is a area of high concern. This is true in Scouting and our Troop. Since our creation as a troop, we have an unblemished record of Safety. We do not participate in activities that have unreasonable risks and will cancel activities when conditions become unsafe. About ScoutingBoy Scouting as a Division of Boy Scouts of America, your son is registered in the world's largest youth organization. Here are some facts you will want to know: A Scout is a member of a Patrol and a Troop. The Troop consists of one or more Patrols. These Patrols meet together once a week as a Troop Meeting under the direction of the Scoutmaster. The Troop is run by a Troop Committee consisting of leaders and interested citizen's of the area. The committee is registered with Boy Scouts of America. A Troop is chartered through a sponsor. VFW Post 4932 is our sponsor. Troop 323 has been in existence Oct 15, 1998. Our Troop is part of the Gulf Ridge Council. The Council covers 8 counties in West Central Florida. It is actually a corporation made up of representatives of Unit sponsors, plus members-at-large. It is run by elected officers and an Executive Board. It employs a small professional and clerical staff who run the Council Service Center and who train Council and District officers, help organize new Units, and help them succeed. Our Council is one of over 500 Councils in America. Our Troop is part of the Ucita District. The Council is divided into districts and there are many district and council officers who work with the Troop. These people are "behind the Scenes" as far as your son is concerned, but without their work and effort, our Troop probably would not exist. The Gulf Ridge Council is chartered by the National Council. Local Councils are coordinated by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America. All badges, books, uniforms and training materials, etc., are prepared by the National Council. Staff members of the National Council make regular visits to our Council and help our local leaders. Closing StatementBoy Scouting is a year-round, home-centered program involving boys and their parents, adult leaders and friends. The Troop can only function successfully with parent participation. Parents are expected to contribute time, energy and talent as needs arise within the Troop. (Boy Scouting Training Programs are available to benefit adult members.) Boys can expect help from parents with achievements in their books, leadership from Troop, fun at all Scout functions, membership in the Boy Scouts of America. Our Troop is open to any questions the boys may have. If we cannot a question, we will try to help the boy find an answer. Parents can expect help with character building for son, specific tools to help with discipline, growth warm associations with son, programmed good times with your son, chance to see son perform in public, opportunity to help son receive public recognition, pride in son's accomplishments. Troop can expect participation by boys in weekly Patrol Meetings, participation of boys and parents in monthly Troop Meetings, help from parents in specific ways during year, payment of fees, information sent to parents to be read, parents to help boys with achievements. Certain events during the year require efforts above and beyond the normal effort put forth by the adult leaders of your Troop. In order to make sure these activities are a success for the Boy Scouts, committees will be formed to spread the work involved. Each family will be expected to help on one of these committees during the year. Our Troop can not function successfully without this parent participation. |
