Duty Roster Responsibilities

There are 3 primary responsibilities on the Duty Roster.  These are:  Fire & Water, Cooking, and Cleanup.  Each of these has their own set of responsibilities and requires the Scout work with the other Scouts in the other jobs on the Duty Roster.

Fire & Water

1  Ensure that fire buckets are set up and filled.
2  Find out from the cooks what fires are needed for the next meal.
3  Gather sufficient fuel for the next meal.
4  Fill water jugs and fire buckets
5  Find out from the Scoutmasters if hot coffee or hot tea are needed for the next meal.  Inform cooks of the need for coffee/tea.
6  Light the troop stoves:  one for cleanup water and if needed a second stove for hot coffee/tea
7  At start of meal preparation, heat 2 one-gallon pots of  water for cleanup.
8  At start of meal preparation, light the cooking fires or cooking stoves for the patrol.  
9  When both pots of water are hot, turn down the cleanup stoves.  

Cooking

1  Inform Fire and Water of your needs for cooking fires and stoves.  Tell them when fires to be ready, the size of fire and type of fire needed.
2  Wash hands before handling food
3  If needed, make hot coffee/hot tea
4  Prepare and serve the meal for your patrol
5  Notify the cleanup crew of any special items that you may have used such as Dutch Ovens.

Cleanup

1  Set up the 3 wash tubs for cleanup
    a  Warm wash water (mix hot water from with cold)  with dish soap 
    b  Cold water with 2 caps of bleach to sterilize
    c  Very hot water 
2  Each person is responsible for washing their own plate, cup and eating utensils
3  Cleanup crew is responsible to wash and put away the cooking equipment for the next meal.

Area Cleanup

1  Police are for litter and trash.  Leave campsite better than you found it.
