Time Line (chronological list of events on Bryan's career)
Bryan Anthony Potvin is a Canadian singer, songwriter, guitar player and producer. Natural from Ottawa (May, 31st, 1963), Bryan lived his childhood among several cities, Winnipeg, Victoria, and at the age of 14 moved to Saskatoon, where he formed his first band "Dorys Daye" and played with it for some time before became part of The Northern Pikes in 1983, (along with Jay Semko, Merl Bryck, Don Schmid). As member of "The Northern Pikes" Bryan achieved recognition as singer and songwriter with songs like "Hopes Go Astray", "Dream Away", "Believe", "She Ain't Pretty" ( #31 in the TOP 100 Canadian Singles of All Time July 1, 2000 and #34 Jam Music! TOP 100 Canadian Rock Songs internet and canadian media survey July 2, 2000). His talented and imaginative way of playing the guitar has inspired and encouraged to fellow musicians. Three Pikes records has been certificated gold and "Snow In June" double platinum. When "The Northern Pikes" went separated ways in 1993, Bryan along with Jay Semko wrote the Due South Theme, for the pilot of the self named TV Series that later became popular all over the world, but he declined to score the music for the following episodes. He got involved then in a job as A & R for Mercury Records, signing acts like Zuckerbaby, till January 1999, when Mercury became part of Universal Music. Meanwhile, he was convinced by David Baxter to participated at a workshop in 1996, and there, Bryan was back into writing music and realized that it was his real call, so he started his own label Klementine Music and recorded his first solo album "Heartbreakthrough" (released July 18, 2000), a record that lets exposed his soul, and the process of breaking and recovering from a relationship. At the Canadian Music Week of 2001 and due the first single of Heartbreakthrough, Read Between The Lines, Bryan was nominated to the Canadian Radio Music Awards which recognizes the excellence and oustanding achievement for new canadian artist on radio, in the category Rock/Alternative Best New Solo Artist. The song "Heaven Is What You Leave Behind" is featured in the film "Xchange" (2000). Back in November of 1999 "Hits & Assorted Secrets 1984-1993" a compilation of hits and unreleased songs by "The Northern Pikes" came out, which lead "The Pikes" to make a support tour in early 2000. Beyond fan recognition, the guys enjoyed to be together and playing again, so it didn't take too long for them to join efforts and get into the making of a new album "Truest Inspiration" (2001), showing once more the talent and maturity of this four musicians. Truest Inspiration and The Northern Pikes were nominated in three categories at The Prairie Music Awards 2001, Outstanding Album (Independent), Songwriters and OUTSTANDING POP RECORDING in this one they won a Wheatie. Bryan's participation during the Prairie Music Week 2001, brought his knowledge to his peers in four events, Herein Lies The Deal, where he discussed exactly how to get a record's deal, and just what that means; SOCAN Songwriters in the Round, where he performed; The Wild World of Publishing, a workshop that gave an overview about publishing and the publisher's role in the industry; An Artists Perspective, artistic discussion lead by Bryan where professional artists talked about why they do it, how they do it and the issues they face while doing it. Bryan signed a publishing deal with BMG Canada in 2001 as Singer, Songwriter and Producer. He has collaborated as songwriter with Elle of Noisecat, and he co-wrote with Troy Samson the song Ride featured in the record of Canadian Popstars Group Velvet Empire. (The Creative Collective 2001) After a pre-poduction work by the end of 2001 Bryan was enlisted by Saskatoon band Touchtones Gurus as producer in 2002 to work their new album "Blue In The Face", in the same year worked with Newfoundland band Timber in their album "Single Thing". November (11-16) Bryan once more was part of The Creative Collective 2002 in Toronto. The group of 35 songwriters is on its way to becoming a Canadian-based, international songwriting institution and an ambassador for the incredible talent that Canada has to offer. Fall-Winter 2002 co-produces Lemonade Andrea England's first full-lenght album. Andrea was awarded as one of the runners-up in the Pop Category of the 2002 John Lennon International Songwriting Contest. The song EASY co-written by Potvin-England did the cut as track #3. The song "Hidden" (a Justin Gray/Bryan Potvin co-write) has been covered by Australian 16 years old pop artist Hayley Aitken. Bryan co-wrote 3 songs with Chris Thorsteinson and Dave Wasyliw for "Everyone Aboard" the last CD of much awarded (MCMA's, CCMA's, PMWA's, CRMA's, Juno's) Manitoba's country band Doc Walker. Another songwriter collaboration the song "Had Enough Of You Today" with Tom Wilson and Davor Vulama for Blackie & the Rodeo Kings' album Bark. Recent Bryan work can be found on the last Northern Pikes album "It's A Good Life" released past July, 12, 2003. September 14, 2004. Bryan is panelist for SAC event Date With A Tape, Etobicoke, Ontario. Sunday October 3rd, Bryan participates as panelist in the SongShop Songwriting Panel presented by the Songwriters Association of Canada during the Conference at the WCMA held in Calgary, Alberta. Bryan collaborates as guitarist on Canadian Idol Ryan Malcolm first album "Home" to be release December 9. November 2003 The Northern Pikes sign record deal with Sextant Records/EMI to re-issue "It's A Good Life" next December 2nd. During 2003 Bryan did some other co-writes like the song "All in your Head" with Christa Borden and that has been the artist most popular after winning Canadian Popstar TV contest. February 15, 2004: Bryan performs at the SOCAN sponsored and always popular Songwriters’ Circle during the ECMAs. On February 17 the song "Underwater" from "It's A Good Life" reaches the top ten in Alberta radio stations. In early 2004 the album hits the college charts TOP 10 in several cities. March 2004. Bryan attends to the Canadian Music Week in Toronto, Canada. Mrach 25, 2004. Solo performance at Montanas in Toronto. Also in March 2004 Beverley Mahood album "Moody Blue" is released and it includes "I Like That Shirt" (track #5, one phrase from this song provided the Album Title) and the other song is "End Of A Long Goodbye" (track #8). Both are Bryan co-writes with Mahood and Rob Wells. June, 13, 2004, Bryan performs during Fest Ukraine at Paramount Canada's Wonderland. June 2004, Bryan starts producing Fair Haven 3rd album. On September 28, 2004 Kara Jelly album was release it contains the song "Overrated" by K. Jelly, R. Patterson, R. Wells, B. Potvin. October 2004. Time to be partying at The Pocket Studios Launch Party, also let his mark there on a co-write with Trevor Kustiak and Mark Vescovi "On My Mind Tonight". January 2005, Bryan is working with young singer, bass player Amanda Bolton. ...will continue updating
