My travels: May 2000

1. Wednesday

After getting up in Ontario CA I drove up to Tulare and picked up a load of frozen cheese for Salinas. I drove to Salinas and unloaded, then waited until morning for information on my next load.

2 Thursday

I loaded Mushrooms in Watsonville at 6pm going to LA. I drove through the night and got to Compton at 2am.

3 Friday

Delivered Mushrooms at 9am, then went to Downtown LA and got 3 pick up's of frozen fish going to San Francisco. I drove straight home to Fresno and got there at 10pm. The fish delivers on Monday 7am.

9am, I am in the garage warming my bike for an all day ride in the hills, my boss calls me and tells me that he needs this load of fish in the yard and not at my house for the weekend. I was under the impression that this load delivers on Monday and I was going to spend the down time at the house. The boss had other plans. I took this load to the yard then hooked to an empty trailer and went to Salinas and picked up a load of lettuce going to Sacramento for tomorrow.

I delivered the load to Sacramento then went back to Hollister and dropped this empty and hooked back up to the load of fish and went to San Francisco and waited for morning to deliver.

Delivered fish then washed out the trailer in Oakland then went to Union City and loaded Dreyers Ice Cream going to Portland Oregon. I was loaded at 1:30pm and headed North towards Oregon. I made it to Canyonville Oregon and stopped at the casino and lost $20, then went to bed.

I got up and waited for the poker room to open up at the casino. I had all day to kill. This load didn't deliver until tomorrow at 4am and it was less than 4 hours to the customer. I played poker most of the day, then drove up to the customer and slept there.

I unloaded the Ice Cream and went to the truck stop and waited for load info. After a few hours, they sent me to Hood River Oregon to pick up pears for Sacramento. I went there and loaded them up and headed south. I made it to the California border and stopped for the night.

Drove in to Corning and sat there all day. Watched movies, washed the truck and just killed most of the day. Then in the late afternoon I drove into Sacramento and parked at the customer and watched TV then fell asleep.

Drove to Dinuba and loaded at Ruiz Foods at 6am. I left at 10am and drove straight to Phoenix AZ. I got to Phoenix at 10pm.

I got up at 1:30am after 3 hours sleep, and delivered 3 of 5 stops and was done at 8am. Then I had the rest of the day off and delivered the other 2 stops at 10pm and 11:30pm. I was empty at 1am then went to sleep.

Drove to Brawley CA and got a full load of corn. Made it as far as Cabazon and stopped for dinner. Then drove on the Hesperia and shut down.

Left the house at 2am and drove up to Sacramento and delivered the corn to Raley's. Then drove to Hollister and washed out the trailer and went to Morgan Hill and loaded Mushrooms going to LA. I drove as far as the Petro at Wheeler Ridge and stopped for a nap. My log book was stretched out.

After 5 hours sleep I got up and went into LA. I was told I had a 6am appt. When I got there I found out that they don't even come in until 8am. I lost 2 hours of sleep right there. I got the Mushrooms off and went to Oxnard and got 3 p/u's on and headed towards Sacramento. I made it to Firebaugh and dropped for the night.

Drove the last 3 hours of the trip to Sacramento and unloaded. Then went home for the rest of the day. (2pm) I was so tired that I couldn't do anything but sit in front of the TV and went to bed at 6pm.

I got up and left the house at 3:30 am and drove to Dinuba and dropped my trailer at Ruiz Foods and hooked to another Redmond trailer which was pre-loaded for me. Then drove straight to Phoenix AZ.

I started at 12:30am and went to my first of 4 drops. My appointments were at 2am, 4am, 6am, and 8am. I got to my first stop at 1:30am and waited for my appt. At 3:30am I still had not been given a door, so I left, and went to my next appt. I went and got all the other drops off then went back to the first stop and was able to get it off then. After that I drove to El Centro CA and started loading 5 pick-ups. I got all of my pick-ups on at 11:30pm. I drove about 45 minutes then went to bed. I worked nearly 24 hours straight today.

I drove up from Salton Sea City to Sacramento, with the hopes of delivering this load early, but no luck. When I got there at 8:30 PM and guy took my paperwork and told me that the unloading crew comes in at 11:30pm. At 6:30 am they came knocking on my door. At that time I backed into a door, and I was unloaded.

Delivered at General Produce in Sacramento then drove to Lodi to pick up eggs at a farm and took them to San Luis Obispo CA and got them off at 6pm then drove to the back of a shopping mall and parked for the night.

After spending the night in the back of a shopping mall, without food, or a rest room, for 13 hours, I got to go to Oxnard and picked up a load for Sacramento. I had 3 pick ups, and was finished loading at 5pm. I drove until I dropped in Firebaugh at the rest area.

I got up after less than 4 hours sleep and drove into Sacramento and unloaded. Then drove towards home. I was so tired that I had to stop for a nap, then drove the rest of the way home.

Left the house at noon and went to Bakersfield to load 2 pick ups. Got the first one on at 3:30pm then went to the second and checked in at 4:30pm I was loaded at 12:30am. 8 hours later. I was paid ($9). Drove until I dropped at 5am in Santa Nella.

Got up 6:30am (1 1/2 hours later ) and drove into San Francisco and made delivery. Then went to Watsonville and picked up Strawberries for Sacramento. Loaded at 4pm, then drove till I dropped in Lodi at the truck stop. Slept for 8 hours.

Got up at 5am and got up to Sacramento and delivered, then went to Morgan Hill to load mushrooms, and that is when...I was fired..... [Click here]
