In 1996, the Pat Binns team took office with a plan to get Prince Edward Island back on track.
While many people doubted we could do it, and some fought against us, still more agreed that it was time to turn PEI around. That meant making tough, deliberate choices to achieve our goals. Premier Binns showed that leadership is about creating a clear vision of what needs to be done, setting priorities, then doing what it takes to reach our goals.
Prince Edward Island's turnaround in the past 6 years didn’t happen by accident. Thanks to our governments hard work and some key decisions, we were able to get rid of the roadblocks that held us back only six years ago.
Creating a better province with more jobs and a better quality of life is not a race, or a contest, it is a never-ending challenge to us all, one that requires strong leadership and a clear vision for our future. Living in Prince Edward Island means that we live in a highly competitive, complex, and fast changing world. We have the choice of either moving forward or risk sliding back and losing our ability to support vital programs such as health care and other vital programs in our province.
After all the progress we’ve made together over the last six years, we can’t risk it all by returning to the old style of provincial politics that left our Island in such a mess only six years ago.
