  SABAISM - I

TO HERCULANO HORTA

It comes from the old Saba the religious creed,

that aims the most inoffensive cult

of the adoration of the light. In the morning, in presence

of the sun, believers there throw down themselves without tumult.

While the sun falls beyond, in the extensive line

of the decline, where it hides its shining body,

the crowd of the Sabaean with sincere and intense faith,

waits for the resplendence of stars, still occult.

I am also Sabaean. And, early in the morning,

I adore your glance that is, flower, in my faith,

an auroral sun. I adore it on the knees.

I am Sabaean, I repeat. And, when the night goes down,

my soul genuflexuous and believing stays

in front of the astral fulgency of your divine eyes.
