The Charleston
The Charleston was the dance rage in the early 1920's. It is thought to have originated by people living on a small island near Charleston, South Carolina. The dance was introduced to the public when the Ziegfeld Follies featured the Charleston. It is believed that the flappers got their name by the way that these girls would flap their arms and walk like birds while doing the Charleston.
