Swinging Bridges

The higher bridge of the 2 you cross.

Swinging Bridges is a somewhat hidden treasure considering how many people on Maui have never been there. It is located near Wailuku and is difficult to explain how to get there. If you are interested on going here I would suggest asking one of the the island locals. Tourist information stands might be another way to get some detailed directions.

Some friends of ours.

Swinging bridges is a great hike and is also a great place to go mountain bike riding. The bridges stretch across about 60-80 yards over a couple smalls streams. It is a beautiful setting that leads back to a waterfall that empties into a pool. There is a rope hanging off the tree for some running swings into the pool. Beware, this is probably the coldest water you will have felt thus far on Maui. The water comes from the West Maui mountains rainforrest. It rains here daily, with an annual rainfall of approximately 350 inches per year. The West Maui mountains have a cloud covering them by noon a majority of the year. If you happen to see it is clear, take advantage of the opportunity and go to swinging bridges.

This is where you take the rope swing or just jump in.

Along the way you will notice ancient irrigation ways that were built over a hundred years ago. They actually cut through a couple of hill sides. It is quite impressive. The water still flows through this waterway, and I believe is still used for irrigating crops.'

Swinging Bridges is a great place to play some frisby golf. The trail that leads to the swimming hole has some great par 3's and 4's along the way. Just call your holes as you go.
