Photo by Randy Davis, Clark Cem. Cass County Illinois, Memorial. James B Davis, stone erected by Edward Davis his son in 1883.
There were no dates of birth or death on the memorial. It is a four sided memorial with engraving on three sides. Edward Davis was the last surviving child of James B Davis and Elizabeth Hawkins. Edward Davis is also buried in this Cemetery, he passed away in July of 1909. His younger brother Richard L Davis passed away in 1904 and is also buried in this Cemetery. View LIST for Clark Cemetery provided by Carol Orwig of Illinois. A special thanks to Randy Davis of Indianna for providing the photos here and Carol Orwig for the source material. The 1850 and 1860 census list his age as 65 and 74 which indicates he was born in 1785 in Virginia. His parents lived in Culpepper County, Virginia untill about 1796 or 1797 and I assume he was born in Culpepper County, Virginia. Charles Davis, his father, was born in Spotsylvania County, Virginia and was a veteran of the American Revolution. James B Davis owned farm land in Cass or Morgan County Illinois. He moved his family from Jessamine County, Kentucky to Morgan County, Illinois in 1835. That part of Morgan County later became Cass County, Illinois. He lived with his daughter Winney Shoopman and husband Jacob Shoopman as shown on the 1860 census for Cass County, Illinois.
This memorial seems to indicate James B Davis and wife Elizabeth Hawkins are buried here. Newspaper clipping obituary on Edward Davis, their son, does say Edward's parents are buried in Clark Cemetery. The date the memorial was erected, May 1, 1883 is probably within a few years of when the last one passed away. I do not think they are listed in the Cemetery Records for Clark Cemetery.
