Southern Men Defeat Texas Southern

BATON ROUGE, LA-Texas Southern could not find an answer for Southern's Brian Johnson as the Jaguars defeated TSU 59-52, Saturday night in the Southwestern Athletic Conference opener for both teams. Johnson scored a game-high 25 points in 33 minutes as Southern kept TSU winless (0-7). The Jaguars built a 33-24 halftime lead, taking advantage of poor TSU shooting. The Tigers were only 8-of-30 from the field in the first half (26.7) percent. They were 18-of-64 for the game (28 percent). Rahmeen Underwood was TSU's leading scorer with 11 points and the only Tiger in double figures. The Tigers lost despite outrebounding Southern 44-32. The Tigers could not take advantage of the rebounding edge as the Jaguars outscored them 34-20 inside. Southern also outscored TSU 14-0 in fast-break points.
