John Harvey
Head Athletic Trainer

John Harvey has served as head athletics trainer for the Tigers since 1974, and is responsible for providing the clinical and administrative supervision of the 17 incollegiate athletics teams, coordination of football team travel and formulation of accountability of the athletic training budget.

Harvey started his career as a student at Jack Yates High School in Houston.  He followed his career path Wiley College where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in 1966.  he later received his Master’s from Prairie View A&M University in 1975.

A certified and licensed trainer for 34 years, Harvey has always been involved in sports.  He worked with the Houston Texans of the World League of American Football in 1974 and was a member of the Houston Oilers game dept.  He has served on the National Association of Athletics Trainers Ethnic Minority Advisory Council and the Board of Certification.

He also holds the distinction of the namesake of the “John Harvey Humanitarian Award” presented by the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association.
