TRINIDAD RIFLE ASSOCIATION

The Trinidad Rifle Association (TRA) was established in 1879 and incorporated by an act of Parliament in 1975. It acts as the governing body for sport shooting within the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago and represents upward of 1000 shooters across the country exclusive of members of the Defence Force, Police and other agencies.

The TRA encourages and promotes several shooting disciplines. Among them are:

  • · 50m Olympic-type Pistol shooting. Men and women shoot separate events. (ISSF)
  • · 50m Olympic-type Pistol and Rifle shooting. Men and women shoot separate events. (ISSF)
  • · 10m Olympic air gun events for men and women in either rifle or pistol. (ISSF)
  • · Trap and Skeet (Shotgun) shooting.
  • · Fullbore shooting. This discipline utilizes 7.62mm caliber rounds shot on ranges spanning 300 to 1000 yards.
  • · Defensive style shooting using semi-automatic handguns and revolvers utilizing 9mm, .45, .38sp and .380 calibers. Either the IPSC or IDPA formats.
  • The top four categories are found in the Olympic Games and athletes can compete up to that level. Fullbore shooting is shot up to the Commonwealth level.
