Friends from the Old World |

Now that I look back on it, I have always had many friends, and I have always wanted to be popular. Ever since I was a child, playing and having fun with others was so important to me. Unfortunately I do not have pictures of all my friends, but I will remember a few here. Doru was my best childhood friend, even if he was five years older than me. He lived in the same apartment building, and was a playground companion. Serban was another friend of mine, we used to immitate Star Wars characters together. Domnita or Omi (the girl in the middle) - We shared the same desk through primary and scondary school, and even high school (my dad and Omi's mom were college friends-crazy!). We grew apart after I left Romania, but still kept in touch through email. Omi is now married to Eugen and they are planning on living in Canada. Elena is a close high-school friend (first from the right) and a bit of a sweet nut, very playful and very liberal. We write to each other regularly. She is marrying the love of her life and settling down. How crazy! Cristina (on the right) is opposite to Elena (she married her first love, but that's over now) and also a high-school friend (my class in HS was almost all girls!). Andra (in the lower pic) is Omi's sister and a wonderful girl, but most of all an amazing dancer. Her Tangoes make hearts skip a beat. She is a dentist and planning on relocating to the US. |

This is my best friend from Italy and my roommate, Bartek. He's from Poland and sooo proud of his country. We lived together for two years and I learned a lot about him. He's a sweet, science-genious, religious, funny, outdoorsy kinda guy with angelic looks. We grew really close, especially in our second year of HS, and stayed friends to this day. Bartek graduated from Harvard in 1999, and works for a biotech firm. (On the right, Bartek as Soldier Sveik in a short skit under my direction). |
Here is my Ialian HS crew. You can see Bartek to the right, Mattia from Italy, Sarah from Sweden, Joe from Canada, Kai from Norway, Aska in the middle (Poland) and Angelika from Germany. Pretty international, ay? We were having champaign at a private party we organized in the HS's music rooms. Che bella vita!

We did study a lot in HS, but we also played like mad. Here, I am one of the guards in "As You Like It", standing next to the HS librarian (to the right), Johana, and an Italian school mate. On the far right, my Italian teacher, Giovanni, who wrote my best evaluation ever. Ti voglio bene caro! |
Zeynep was my partner in folly while in Italy. This crazy Turkish girl was my co-anchor for the HS TV station, my dance partner and my close friend. Zeynep is now a successful producer for Turkish TV. |
In Italy, if all your friends want to throw you to the ground and pile on top of you, you'd better run for it. That's me being chased by Zeynep, Maria do Brasil, Joe from Canada, and Zoltan from Hungary. |
