Tulsa Press Club's Annual Gridiron Show is Feb. 21-22 "Lame Ducks and Councilmen, or Osama Where Art Thou?" is the title of the 70th annual Tulsa Press Club Gridiron show, scheduled for February 21 and 22. It again will be held in the Bernsen Center of the First Presbyterian Church.

P. Casey Morgan, the chief author, says, "We plan to raise political incorrectness to a new high this year, showing almost complete disrespect for hallowed institutions and individuals. We are tired of griping by people who say the Gridiron has gone soft." Authors will include Morgan, Randy Krehbiel, Tom M. Campbell, Mimi Haig, Chris Metcalf, Jeff Buckley, D. J. Morrow, Dennis Smiley, and perhaps others eager to demonstrate their sarcastic bent. For 2002, the sometimes rowdy general admission performance will be at 8 p.m. on Thursday, and the banquet program will be on Friday night. This is a departure from past years, when the show had a Friday and Saturday run. The Gridiron is a humorous review of the past year's events, featuring dialogue in the form of rhymed couplets and many, many songs adapted to poke barbs into politicians and celebrities.

Proceeds from the show, which is sponsored by the Tulsa Press Club Educational and Charitable Trust, go to fund journalism/communication scholarships at the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma State University, Northeastern State University, and Tulsa Community College. Morrow, Chairperson of the Trust, says that there will be scenes dealing with national, state, and local politics, sports, and many other topics. "Everyone from Gov-ernor Keating to Mayor Savage, from Steve Largent to Coach Keith Burns, and even Joe Williams can expect to feel the heat," Morrow emphasizes. "We'd be 'stupid' not to devote a little attention to Oklahoma Coach Bob Stoops," Morgan quippes. Work also is underway on a scene that will probe the state's number-one national ranking in executions, with Oklahoma having overtaken Texas. Sonny Gray again will be the Gridiron's musical director. Tickets for the Thursday night show are $10. They can be purchased at the outlets of Novel Idea Bookstores and through the Tulsa Press Club, located in the lobby of the Atlas Life Building, 415 S. Boston Ave. People interested in the Friday banquet show, attended by many top politicians, can call the Tulsa Press Club to receive an invitation. The number is 583-7737.
