Jakob Lindberg J.S. Bach - Lute Music BWV 995-1000,1006a BIS |
Mr. Lindberg's lute performance is recorded very close to the microphones. One can hear the sublties of his finger-work as he plays. Excellent recording and an almost 'in-your-living-room' feel. Performance is solid, intonation is flawless. Well recommended |

Julian Bream - Guitar Chaconne, Suite in E minor, Partita in E Major, Prelude, Fugue and Allegro BWV 996,998,1004,1006a EMI Classics · 5 55123 2 |
Mr. Bream has many years behind this performance his fingerwork is very precise and flawless, but his age shows in the lack of high speed endurance required for the Chaconne -- so he uses a more 'controlled' approach. The recording is clean and clear and very musical. Highly recommended |

Lara St. John Bach Works for Violin Solo BWV 1004,1005 Well-Tempered Productions · WTP 5180 |
Music reviewer Jan Hanford calls this recording a milestone. I couldn't agree more. The performance is second to none. A minor flaw is that the recording has some background noise - which is easly dismissed when compaired to the flawless craftsmanship of this Canadian National Champion violinist. If you seek only the Ciaccona, then stop here. |

Itzhak Perlman Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin BWV 1001-1006 EMI Classics |
Itzhak Perlman has sold more CDs of these works than any other performer, mainly due to his (deserved) popularity. This is a good reference - because more people can refer to this when comparing other recordings. Sadly, this is not Mr. Perlman's best work. He makes some mistakes, but generally he is still the virtuoso that we expect of him. Clean recording. Not the best, but still recommended. |

Vito Paternoster - Cello Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin Transcribed for Cello Based on a Manuscript From the 18th Century BWV 1001-1006 Musicaimmagine Records · MR 10033 |
Vito Paternoster takes on a very difficult challenge -- to play the Bach Works for violin on Guitar is one thing but I never thought I would see these by a cellist The oddity of this is worth the price of admission but check closely at how Vito handles the fugue stops within the C major sonata. Most Impressive |

Hilary Hahn plays Bach Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin BWV 1001-1006 Sony Classical - 62793 |
Miss Hahn was 15 years old at the time of her recording while attending Curtis Institute, this is her debut -- and what a debut it is. Her playing is energetic and full of life, but show a great deal of maturity. Regardless of age, this performance is outstanding, and the recording is is very clear and highly detailed. Not the best there is, but very close. Highly recommended! |
