The Characters
of Yu Yu Hakusho
The main character of Yu Yu Hakusho. He's a 14-year-old high school delinquent, with dark brown eyes and black hair, which he usually slicks back. He gets into fights all the time yet he has a sense of justice. He was killed in a traffic accident when trying to save a child, but for some reasons, the Reikai (Spiritual World) did not know what to do with his soul, for his death was unexpected, so he was given a chance to “reborn” again. With the help of Keiko (his girlfriend) His first mission was to get back three Reikai artifacts (a sword and orb and a mirror) from Hiei, Kurama and another Youkai (demon) named Koki. He killed the first Koki, helped Kurama and defeated Hiei (by luck). He then became a disciple of Genkai's, a master of Reiki (spiritual power), strengthened his Rei-gun, and learnt other ways of using his 'Rei' powers.
Together with his friends, Kurama, Hiei and Kuwabara, they defeated many Youkais and protected Ningenkai (Human World). Later they found out that Yusuke is a descendant of Raizen, one of the three most powerful youkai in Makai, (Demon World), besides Yomi and Mukuro. Raizen knew he was dying soon and therefore sent a few of his followers to ask Yusuke to go to Makai. Raizen died a year after meeting Yusuke as he refused to eat humans, and since he could not eat anything else(some demons are like that you know), he starved himself to death.
SPOILER WARNING:
After Raizen's death, Yusuke became the ruler of that territiory and suggested to the other two rulers, Yomi and Mukuro to held an tournament which was open to all youkais. The rules were simple, the winner becomes the Makai and the rest will obey him/her until the next tournament, which will be held every three years. During the tournament finals, Yusuke was defeated by Yomi (after fighting for more than sixty hours). He came back to Ningenkai and stayed with his friends opened a ramen shop or something weird for a all powerful guy ^_^.
The tallest one of the four main
characters, he has reddish orange hair , small eyes, large mouth...in
another word, quite ugly.
Though he's not hard working, but he's not as lazy as Yusuke, but for
science he got only 7 points in his test while Yusuke got 12 points, his
conduct at school is not very good but it's only because he likes fighting
with others, he refuse to steal things nor to bully people. He love cats
very much especially his own one called Eikichi.
He was Yusuke's school mate and always wanted to defeat Yusuke (though he
had never success...) and he became Yusuke's best friend later.
His weapon is Rei-sword, which can break through any directions. Usually
he's the weakest of the four (even weaker then his sister, Kuwabara
Shizuru) but when his friends are in danger or Yukina is near, he'll
suddenly become very powerful. He would do anything for his friends and
his cats.
At the end of the story, he became very hard working and got in to a
university He is the only one who is totally human out of the four.
(Yusuke is a Youkai's descendant, Hiei has never been a human and Kurama
used to be a youko).
Kurama
used to be a Youko (fox demon, or as the manga said, a nine-tailed fox
spirit) in Makai, but when he was shot by a 'hunter', his body died, but
his soul fled to Ningenkai (Human World). In Ningenkai, he born to Minamino
Shiori, after which he came into Ningenkai as Minamino
Shuichi. After ten years, he would regain his Youki, but he was unwilling
to leave Shiori, his mother, for she had taught him love unknowingly. He
was unable to turn back to his Youko form as he was 'binded' to his human
self. This also weakened him considerably, compared to his Youko self. He
finds a way to revert back to his Youko form during the Ankoku Bujutsukai(Tournament)
just before the Urameshi team faced the Toguro team.
Kurama cares about his human mother very much, which was shown at the
beginning of the story. He had stolen a mirror from Reikai because his
mother,Shori, is dying. That mirror can grant a wish, but the price was
life. Kurama decided to save his mother, although he knew the he would die
because of this. He told Yuusuke that he would return the mirror to
Yuusuke after he had wished for his mother's happiness. He did not tell
Yusuke about the 'price' he had to pay for making a wish, which made
Yusuke wonder why Kurama did not want to return the mirror to Reikai
himself. Fortunately Yusuke had found out soon enough and told the mirror
that he would give some of his life to Kurama so that he would not die. In
the end, the mirror decided not to take any lives and both of them did not
die.
As a human, Kurama is taller than Yuusuke and Hiei, but not as tall as
Kuwabara. With his long, bushy red hair complete with a pair of large
green eyes, he is often mistaken as a girl (which is not fair to Kurama ).
He is also the top student for two years continuously in a well-known high
school (he got second in his following year).He was beated by his friend,
Kaito, by only 7 points!
As a Youko, Kurama is the tallest among the four, with long silvery hair
and a tail, a pair of sharp golden eyes and a pair of fox's ears. He is
always seen dressed in a set of 'armour' made of a white cloth material
from Makai. Youko Kurama used to be a thief in Makai.
Kurama is normally calm, polite, friendly and nice. However, there are
also times when he is not. He seems to be more cruel, and colder, but
calmer as a Youko. Kurama has turned into a Youko at least twice (in the
manga). He turns into a Youko whenever he needs to fight or when he's
angry, and his human self, Shuuichi, seems to be used to hide his strong
Youki.
Kurama has the ability to manipulate all plants and turns them into
weapons and effective killing tool, in which 'Rose Whip', which is a whip
that was created from a rose, was often preferred by him, complete with
sharp thorns that can tear nearly everything in to pieces.
SPOILER WARNING:At the end of the story, Kurama decided to stay in Ningenkai and work in
his stepfather's company.

Hiei
is the shortest one of all the YYH male characters but dont call him
shorty to his face or he'll gut you (heheh). He has black (or dark blue?) spiky hair that look
extremely sharp with white streak in the front, he has a Jagan, an eye
that can see anywhere on his
forehead, his normal eyes are reddish brown and the Jagan is light purple
with red.
Hiei can control fire, his main 'weapon' is Ensats Kokurytha, which is a
dragon made up of fire from Makai, it is so strong that it can destroy a
building within a second. Aside from this Hiei is also a good sword man,
he moves much faster than human eye can see, with his Jagan, he can know
what's happening far away, and can control some weak youkai and human, but
this is only shown at the beginning of the anime series.
Hiei has a younger sister called Yukina, but Hiei refuses to tell her that he's her elder brother
due to a promise he made to Shigure the one who gave him Jagan. Hiei's best
friend is Kurama and Yusuke he respects and later is concidered a true
friend, (he think Kuwabara is an idiot ) but he'll never admit it, he refuse to show any feeling to
anybody he cares except to Yukina who treats with kindness and care( to
kuwabara's misguided jealousy).
Hiei is quite bad tempered to those he considers idiotic ( Poor Kuwabara )but in
. He'll always
find excuses to show that he didn't want to help Yusuke, but something
make him to help him, for example, when Yusuke ask him to help him to
defeat Sensui, he said "Yusuke, now there is one more reason that
force me to help you...I don't want to see these stupid youkai any more,
it annoys me." To his enemies Hiei is cruel and fearless, he hates to
do what others tell him to a real bad @$$ but in a nice way (hehe!!).
SPOILER WARNING: At the end of the story, Hiei stays in Makai with one of the most powerful
youkai, Mukuro, Hiei is bring her right-hand man for that give him more
chances to fight with others.
