A
delegation of Chinese and Pakistani defense officials were in Ankara
last week to discuss with the Turkish authorities the possibility of
entering Islamabad's new Al-Khalid (T-80 derivative) into Turkey's
multi-billion-dollar main battle tank (MBT) co-production project.
The officials reported that the contribution of Pakistan to the
tender is most probably in "informed observer" stage,
rather than bidding with its main battle tank, which is not in NATO
standards.
