The contenders has started the send the sample tanks to the Turkey. The US General Dynamics Land System/BMC-Nurol had left a M-1A2 Abrams, demonstrated in Ankara for IDEF-99 on September 1999, in Turkey for the trials. The strong-contender German KMW/Otokar's sample Leopard IIA6 reached Turkey yesterday. French GIAT/Roketsan LeClerc and Ukraine's Ukreksport/Asmaş T-84 tanks will be expected to arrive to Turkey at the end of January. According to the military sources, the fire tests will be performed on SerefliKochisar (Ankara), where a new maneuver site has been constructed under a cost of $500 thousands, amphibic tests on Kayseri, the winter tests on Sarikamis (Erzurum) and summer tests on Diyarbakir.

trials of short-listed four Main Battle Tanks of $8 billion
Turkish Tank-2000 project will start in January. The tests and
demonstrations will be completed by July, 2000 before the announcement
about decision of winner.
